Catering Assistant
Snackerz Ltd
I started Snackerz in 2022 with the Van being built and out on the road in the Spring of 2023. The business has faced challenges but is going from strength to strength. Primarily offering freshly made toasties but can also do bacon rolls, paninis and mac and cheese. There are also hot and cold drinks available plus a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. The van travels around Swindon (and sometimes further) attending events and serving snacks and light bites to visitors! I am ready to grow and I am looking for 2-3 people to join me on this journey. Full training will be given to staff. I am looking for honest, reliable and positive people. This will be a zero hour contract position and hours can't be guaranteed but with the right people on the team, there is a possibility of more hours as more events can be booked in for the weekends to provide the hours. There are no wrong answers in this application form - I want to get to know you and your answers to some of the real scenarios that I have come across in the last month alone! I don't need your CV as I want to get to know you. I just need to know you are willing to put in the work and understand that it isn't easy, requires problem solving and a positive attitude.
Job Description
This job can be different for each event so you will need to be adaptable as you may be working alone or with others and in different locations at different times. You could be in the van, in a gazebo or at an indoor event. You will need to be willing to travel to events, maintain quality and represent the company in a positive way. The role will include serving customers, handling money, preparing food, cooking food, maintaining health and hygiene standards. There may be an element of loading and unloading stock and equipment at a venue if not serving directly from the van. The role does not include guaranteed hours as it can vary week on week as well as there being busier seasons. The person right for this role is willing to put in hard work, have a positive attitude and isn't afraid of a long day! Hours will predominantly be at the weekends as this is when most events happen. The hourly rate will be £12.50. As the business grows there will be more hours available and more opportunities.

Scenario 1 - You are at a 2 day event and you have all the food that you'll need for the 2 days but day 1 is much busier than anticipated. What do you do to manage? For example do you use everything you need and deal with the situation at the end of the day, ration the food so you have enough for both days or something else? Tell me what you would do and why.
Scenario 2 - You get to an event and your neighbour is upset over the location of your generator. The organiser and your other neighbour are involved in the discussion for a resolution. It is suggested that you move the generator, you move the whole pitch to a different location or you leave the generator where it is because that is where you were told to put it by the organiser themself whilst you were setting up. In this situation, what would you do or say to ensure everyone was happy with the solution?
Scenario 3 - The event is busier than you expected and you run out of water for the coffee machine. What do you do and why?
