  • American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 3: Stroke Development

    The Learn-to-Swim Level 3 program focuses on developing swimming skills in deep water and introducing coordinated strokes. This level emphasizes safety, endurance, and increased independence.

    Program Objectives

    Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

    • Jump into deep water from the side.
    • Perform headfirst entries from a seated or kneeling position.
    • Bob with rhythmic breathing while moving toward safety.
    • Float on front and back for extended periods without support.
    • Demonstrate coordinated front crawl and elementary backstroke for 15 yards.
    • Practice scissors kick and dolphin kick.
    • Tread water for 30 seconds.
    • Build endurance through longer swim distances.


    Eligibility Requirements (Prerequisites):

    Completion of Learn-to-Swim Level 2 or ability to:

    • Float independently on front and back.
    • Roll between front and back.
    • Swim basic front crawl and backstroke with support.
    • Jump into chest deep water
    • Tread in chest deep water
    • Demonstrate front, jellyfish, and tuck floats.
    • Recover from horizontal swim to vertical standing positions.

    What to Expect Upon Acceptance

    Participants will gain increased stamina, confidence in deep water, and foundational stroke skills to prepare for more advanced swimming techniques.

    NEXT STEPS: Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to submit their application. Accepted participants will receive placement, payment and session schedules details from the program coach.

    • $65/month-unlimited practices per week

    • July-Sept (Summer swim..no formal lessons taught)
      • Mon/Wed 6:00p-7:30p at West Charlotte
      • Thu 8p-9p at Fairmeadows Swim Club 
      • Sundays 8a-9:45a at Fairmeadows Swim Club
    • Oct-Feb
      • Mon/Wed 7:30-8:45p at West Charlotte
      • Sundays 9:30a-11am at Fairmeadows Swim Club

    To make your experience enjoyable, please invest in the following and bring with you to every practice:

    • Proper swim attire. For modesty purposes, do not wear resort/beach swimwear or street shorts. 
    • Well-fitted goggles. We sale these in our on-site trunk store $30 (Snake and Pig)
    • Properly fitted swim cap. We sell these in our on-site trunk store $10-$16 (Silicone custo EA caps)
    • Fins
    • Kickboard
    • Center-mount swim snorkel
    • Towels. 
    • Healthy hydration such as water. We do not recommend commercial sports drinks due to the high sugar and salt content.

    All fees are a non-refundable or transferable. 

    Swimming is a strenous low impact activity, that requires pratice, patience, self-discipline and consistent attendence to class. 

    Written medical clearance from your health care provider to participate in this program. Click here to down load the Medical clearance form and submit a completed copy prior to the start of your class. 

    No photos, videos, or other recording methods are allowed in the pool area and of program participants without prior writtten managment consent.
