On behalf of everyone here at The Abode, thank you so much for your interest in serving on the Board of Directors. In our community, there are diverse ways to serve towards a strong and vibrant future, and further towards the important work to provide a sanctuary for spiritual exploration and community, in harmony with nature. We appreciate your interest in service deeply, and for taking the time to apply.

The following application offers us an opportunity to know more about you, your skills, attributes and what you would bring to our board. It also gives you a sense of what matters to us in any board candidate. The goal of our process is to determine if we are a good fit for each other - your level of commitment and ability to deliver on our expectations so that we are confident that you can help us to increase the scope and impact of our work. On the other side, we want to know what motivates you and how you think about our organization, so we can know how to best utilize your strengths and areas of expertise.

Among other responsibilities, board members play a key role in raising funds for the Abode. It is an expectation of board service that you will introduce people in your sphere of influence to our work and invite them to know and do more - as event attendees, prospective volunteers, board members, staff and as donors. In return, we are committed to providing a solid line of support for each other as we represent the Abode.

Are you experienced or at least comfortable using online productivity tools such as Basecamp and Zoom, or comfortable enough with computers to learn them? This is our primary mode of communication and requires frequent checking.
Our board is more than a collection of individuals. It is an entity that governs, approves strategy and engages in robust discussion and debate on issues relevant to the Abode's well-being. It must act as a single entity. We are looking for traits and qualities that will contribute to the diversity of viewpoints and capabilities of our board:

Can you think of any challenges you might face to serving on the board in a way that will help move the Abode forward? How might you find a way around them?
Do you have ideas or ways that you might uniquely be able to reach out to new Abode members, event attendees and donors, or are you willing to spend some time to explore this type of outreach? Similarly, do you have ideas or connections to programs or presenters that might be a good fit for what the Abode offers to support its Spiritual mission?
Board service is a true commitment of time and energy. At this time of renewal and growth, board service could be a commitment of 10 to 20 hours each month.

Attendance at some of our events (Sunday brunches, Universal Dances of Peace, or other Abode-led opportunities) as you are able is highly encouraged.

In addition, we require attendance at our monthly board meeting, which is generally held on the 3rd Friday of each month (with some adjustments as needed). Zoom attendance is fine for those times you might be traveling or not able to leave home.

Missing more than 3 meetings per year may lead to dismissal from the board. Board terms are currently 1 year with a vote for renewal each year.
