We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution is a nationally recognized civics curriculum developed by the Center for Civic Education. It engages students in the principles and history of the U.S. Constitution through interactive lessons, discussion activities, and simulated congressional hearings. In Utah, Utah Law-Related Education (ULRE) oversees the We the People program and supports teachers in implementing it in their classrooms.
The We the People program includes distinct curricula for elementary, middle, and high school levels, each with its own textbooks, lesson plans, and instructional activities. For middle and high school classrooms, participation in the state We the People competition is an expected component of the program.
Because there is a substantial amount of material, we encourage you to explore the curriculum that matches your classroom’s grade level and review examples of lessons, activities, and competitions on the Center for Civic Education website.
