  • Apply for We The People Textbooks & Curriculum

  • We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution is a nationally recognized civics curriculum developed by the Center for Civic Education. It engages students in the principles and history of the U.S. Constitution through interactive lessons, discussion activities, and simulated congressional hearings. In Utah, Utah Law-Related Education (ULRE) oversees the We the People program and supports teachers in implementing it in their classrooms.

The We the People program includes distinct curricula for elementary, middle, and high school levels, each with its own textbooks, lesson plans, and instructional activities. For middle and high school classrooms, participation in the state We the People competition is an expected component of the program.

Because there is a substantial amount of material, we encourage you to explore the curriculum that matches your classroom’s grade level and review examples of lessons, activities, and competitions on the Center for Civic Education website.

If you are interested in applying to receive We the People textbooks and materials as part of a limited, selected group of classrooms, please complete the questions below.

  • By submitting this application, I understand that We the People is a classroom-based program and not a student sign-up activity. If selected to receive textbooks and materials, I commit to implementing the curriculum with my students during the upcoming school year.

I also understand that participation in the state We the People competition is an essential component of the program for middle and high school classrooms. As part of implementing the program, I commit to preparing my students for and attending the next state competition (typically held in February for high school, grades 9–12, and March for junior high, grades 7–8).

I understand that student participation in the state competition is part of implementing the program in the classroom, rather than an individual opt-in activity for students.
