• River Grove Volunteer and Visitor Agreement 2025-2026

  • Volunteers and chaperones have an important role as part of our educational team. The first role of a volunteer is to provide a positive relationship with the students and staff. Volunteers creatively share their talents to support students, teachers, and staff. Ultimately, a volunteer's primary goal is to positively impact student achievement: academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. We very much appreciate your partnership and assistance at school!

    RG Volunteers:

    • Have completed a River Grove background check in the past 3 years. Please contact our Administration and allow 3 weeks to process new background checks.
    • Park in the guest lot, sign in/out of the front desk and wear a volunteer ID at all times.
    • Schedule and coordinate all visits with teachers well in advance to find a time and place that works well for all and meets a specific educational purpose.
    • Please do not bring siblings or extra guests.
    • Always maintain a caring and professional attitude while helping the class and teacher
    • Are prompt and dependable, only remaining on campus for your pre-scheduled volunteer activity. Walking or driving around campus, visiting lunch/recess or other spaces should be avoided.
    • Follow the behavior and learning rules of the class and Student Handbook.
    • Assist ALL students with classroom tasks as assigned by the supervising teacher/staff member. It is enjoyable to spend time with your child, but as a volunteer, it is important that volunteers focus on the needs of the teacher/class as a whole.
    • Keep all information concerning children, teachers and the school confidential. This includes student performance, behavior, health, staff conversations and parent information.
    • Share any concerns with the teacher immediately.
    • Refrain from discussing/sharing political, religious or personal views with students.
    • Always remain in public spaces, avoiding supervising and time alone/apart from the group with any student/s, including in restrooms.
    • Know that core instruction, student discipline, supervision and health concerns are the responsibility of the teacher.

    Visitor Code of Conduct

Visitors are expected to demonstrate respect and kindness at all times. We hold the highest standard for our visitors and want to provide the best possible learning experience for our students! Visitors/Volunteers understand that their presence helps the whole school and disruptions to the learning or work environment should always be avoided.

Disruptive behavior includes (but not limited to):

    • Arriving/dropping off students before 8:15 or picking up after 3:30
    • Violation of sign-in/out and scheduling/locations, as pre-arranged with staff.
    • Violation of Student Handbook guidelines, including attire that is disruptive or disrespectful in any way
    • Interruption of instruction or staff responsibilities
    • Disrespectful, demeaning, rude, disparaging or insulting comments about or to another person
    • Hostility, Personal attacks, Intimidation, Raised Voice, Threats/threatening behavior, swearing/vulgar language
    • Physical contact (other than handshake)
    • Recording, photographing or filming staff or students, without prior permission
    • Chemical use/impairment
    • Disrupted learning for the child of the volunteer (increased separation anxiety, disciplinary issues, etc…)

In the unfortunate event of any disruptive behavior, administration will be promptly notified to address the issue and may ask the visitor to leave. All visitors (including parents/guardians) must follow the rules of conduct in order to remain on campus.

Administration may deny visits if an individual has violated school visitor policy, requests educationally inappropriate or inconvenient times, has threatened a student or staff, creates a disruption at school, actions suggest chemical impairment or has been charged with a serious crime involving a child, has specific custody arrangements or presents a risk of harm.

We are very grateful for your willingness to assist at school! We look forward to partnering with you!
