Thank you for your interest in applying to be a Junior Instructor Candidate (JIC) or Junior Instructor.
First and foremost the Sailing and Leadership Training (SALT) Program is a leadership development program. The core focuses are to develop our instructor’s sailing, mentorship, leadership, and soft skills. It is designed as a four year+ program, with each year having different focuses and responsibilities.
Under the leadership of the Directors and Head Instructors, JICs will participate in training throughout their time at CBC to enhance their skills. Sessions will be led on the following topics:
- Developing leadership skills
- Developing communication skills
- Problem-solving
- Developing confidence
- Working with others
First Year JICs accepted into the 2026 SALT Program will be required to participate in:
- One Weeklong Keelboat Sailing & Rowing Session
- One Two-Week Learn to Sail Right Session
Returning JICs accepted into the 2026 SALT Program will be required to participate in:
- One Weeklong Keelboat Sailing & Rowing Session
- One Two-Week JIC Sailing & Leadership Session
JIs invited to apply for the 2026 SALT Program will be required to participate in:
- One Weeklong Keelboat Sailing & Rowing Program
- 3+ Weeks in JI Training and SYSP Programs

The CBC staff will be evaluating the progress of all JICs in the programs. JICs who demonstrate proficiency in sailing, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to setting and achieving set goals will be invited by the CBC Directors to join the CBC Instructor Staff as Junior Instructors.
