  • Program History

  • The Pitt County Educational Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the quality of public education in Pitt County. By acting as a bridge between the community and the schools, the foundation provides a way for private individuals and corporate entities to contribute to the development and future success of students. This involvement ensures that students are better prepared to face future challenges, and it highlights the community's investment in public education as a key to their collective well-being. The foundation's focus on community-driven support emphasizes the shared responsibility in shaping the educational landscape.

The Teacher Executive Institute, supported by the Pitt County Educational Foundation, is a powerful initiative aimed at fostering collaboration between educators and the business community. By allowing teachers to visit local companies, the program creates a meaningful exchange where educators can gain insights into the local economy, the needs of the business sector, and the skills required for students to succeed in the workforce.

Additionally, the focus on developing communication and leadership skills for teachers helps enhance their ability to lead in the classroom and beyond. It also provides businesses the chance to engage with and appreciate the educators who are shaping future employees and leaders. This mutual exchange not only benefits teachers but also strengthens ties between education and the broader community, ensuring that the educational system aligns more closely with real-world demands.

  • Selection Criteria

  • The selection process for the Teacher Executive Institute is highly competitive and designed to identify educators who have demonstrated excellence and commitment to their profession. The criteria focus on three key areas:

    1. Outstanding Achievement: Teachers who have been previously recognized for exceptional contributions or accomplishments in education.
    2. Inspiring Students: Evidence of the teacher's ability to foster intellectual curiosity, a critical quality in shaping motivated and engaged learners.
    3. Professional Growth: A clear track record of taking recent steps to enhance their skills and knowledge, showing their dedication to continuous improvement.

The selection committee brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including educators, administrators, foundation board members, and local industry representatives. This ensures a well-rounded perspective in choosing participants, reflecting both educational priorities and the needs of the local community. The involvement of local industry highlights the program's commitment to bridging the gap between education and the workforce, ensuring that the selected teachers are not only exceptional in the classroom but also well-positioned to collaborate with the business sector.
