    Parent Code of Conduct
  • 1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.

    2. I will inform the coordinator of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

    3. I understand that the WYBP program is organized to promote youth athletics and good sportsmanship.

    4. I understand that my conduct as a parent will have a definite impact on youth for whom it is intended, the program, and myself.

    5. I (and my guests) pledge to support, cooperate, and work in every way to promote youth athletics in the best interest of the program and youths involved.

    6. I (and my guests) pledge that I will treat all coaches, parents, participants and officials with respect and will encourage my child to do so also.

    7. I pledge to be respectful to all officials, even in an expression of disagreement.

    8. I do agree to be responsible for all guests that I bring to the game and inform them of the rules of conduct that is expected during all WYBP events.

    9. I do agree to not bring my child to a game or practice if they are obviously sick and contagious.

    10. I understand that if I display poor sportsmanship, whether during or following a game, I will be subject to partial or permanent program suspension. Unsportsmanlike conduct is defined as, but not limited to the following:

    • Harassment of participants, coaches or officials
    • Use of profane language and/or gestures
    • Public threats of physical violence
    • Encouraging violence with verbal or physical threats (i.e. take him down/out)
    • Blaming a player for losing a game

    11.  Regulations regarding adult ejection or suspension will follow the guidelines listed below:

    • I understand that if I am asked to leave a game, I will be suspended from attending the next game to be played by my child’s team and that my child will sit for the remainder of the game.
    • I understand that if I am asked to leave a second game during any one season I will not be allowed to attend all remaining games for the duration of the season.
    • I understand that the WYBP will review all adult ejections or suspensions and may extend any suspension beyond what is stated above as deemed appropriate for the offense.

    12.  This Code of Conduct does not exclude discipline by WYBP. In the case of an ejection, the parent must leave the facility (out of sight and sound) in which the gym is located and cannot return until 1 hour after their team's next match. If the parent does return before this time, an additional 2 game suspension will be incurred. Typical WYBP disciplinary actions for offenses are shown below:

    • Disrespect to an opposing player = 1 game suspension
    • Ejection from a game (first offense) = 1 game suspension
    • Ejection from a game (second offense) = 1 season suspension
    • Ejection from a game (third offense) = life suspension from participating in WYBP events
    • Verbal assault/hostile challenge of a referee/coach/player = 1 year suspension from attending games
    • Physical assault/hostile challenge of a referee/coach/player = life suspension from participating in WYBP events

For the health and safety of our kids, weapons, smoking, chewing tobacco, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or pets (including dogs of any size) are not allowed on WYBP gyms. If you are seen with any of these items, you will be asked to leave the event and may be found in violation of the Parent Code of Conduct or may be reported to the local authorities which may result in criminal charges and/or disciplinary action by the Winters Youth Basketball Program. Additionally, public intoxication or being under the influence of any controlled substances on WYBP sponsored gyms, or any other place where WYBP teams are gathering, practicing, or competing will not be tolerated. These actions may also result in being reported to the local authorities which may result in criminal charges and/or disciplinary action by the WYBP.

I further acknowledge that this WYBP Parent Code of Conduct may be updated and modified at WYBP's sole discretion from time to time and the current version will be available on the City of Winters website, https://www.cityofwinters.org/171/Youth-Basketball
