APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Deadline - November 14, 2025
This application is for first responders (including support staff at a first responder agency), first responder volunteers, and first responder retirees in Utah who are seeking a degree or certificate to become mental health therapists.
Recipients may receive an award of up to $6,000 per year to cover tuition and fees after other financial aid is applied, for up to four academic years, subject to meeting renewal requirements. The grant may be used at any Utah public college or university or select Utah non-profit private colleges and universities that offer eligible academic programs.
The scholarship is administered by the Utah Board of Higher Education.
Note: This is the second application period in the 2025 calendar year and will provide support to students beginning in the Spring 2026 semester. Students who were previously awarded during the 2025/26 first application period should not reapply.
Key Application Requirements
All applicants must:
- Be a first responder (including support staff at a first responder agency), first responder volunteer, or a retiree who worked as a first responder in Utah, as those terms are defined in Utah Code Section 53B-8-116.
- Enroll at an eligible college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year in a postsecondary degree or certificate program, which will qualify the applicant upon completion to become a mental health therapist, as that term is defined in Utah Code Section 58-60-102.
- Please note that pre-requisite degrees are not eligible for funding under this grant.
In addition, renewal applicants must:
- Provide transcript information to show progress toward degree completion.
A completed application does not guarantee funding.
Note - This application will need to be completed in one session. Applicants will not be able to save their progress and complete the application later. Before starting the application, please have all the information necessary to complete it.
