Through ARTWATER and the Five Dollar Art Party, Rebduce gathers three dozen diverse artists to fundraise for Congo and Palestine and collects gently used art supplies for underserved communities. In our conversation, we’ll discuss how art can build community and become a catalyst for social change.
REBDUCE is a queer disabled woman of color artist and activist whose art embodies divine feminine energy and activism for social change extends through her nonprofit ARTWATER. For decades, her fine art has focused on figurative drawings and paintings of women abstracted by fibonacci curves and swirls that explore the natural and the surreal. She uses ballpoint pen, pencil, and watercolor to create stylized figures that play between positive and negative shapes with themes of balance, sexuality, and liberation.
REBDUCE founded nonprofit ARTWATER in 2022 to use art as a key tool to elevate the collective human consciousness by providing access to creative resources and community art experiences. ARTWATER's first program, the Five Dollar Art Party, is an event that activates La Culebra art park, a radical third space in Highland Park Los Angeles founded in 1991 by artist and activist Tricia Ward. Beyond uplifting diverse artists, musicians and muralists, these activations are art supply drives and fundraisers. Their community events amplify causes like Altadena Fire Relief and organizations like Focus Congo and the Rammun Foundation in Palestine. REBDUCE and ARTWATER are giving access to creative resources to develop revolutionary creativity that will enhance equity, promote wellbeing, encourage human connection and foster social change.
