  • What is a Union Sheet Metal Worker?

    Sheet Metal Workers may perform a variety of tasks and work in diverse conditions, depending on the project. Below are examples of the types of work and environments they may encounter:
    1. Sheet Metal Work:
      1. General shop work, layout, drafting, CAD, etc.
      2. General erection, etc.
      3. Air conditioning
      4. Roofing, gutters, cornices, skylights, specialty work
      5. Welding
      6. Exhaust, and other pipe work
    2. Equipment: hand tools, brakes, lock forming machines, burning outfits, scaffolds, ladders, swing stages
    3. Heights:      4’ step ladder – up to 100’ plus
    4. Working Conditions:
      1. Average sheet metal worker works approximately 8 months per year
      2. Traveling sometimes 50 miles one way
      3. Lunch break – 30 minutes
      4. Inclement weather causes loss of hours
      5. Only paid for hours worked
    5. Hours of Work (normal):
      1. 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
      2. Shift work may occur
      3. Inclement weather causes loss of hours
      4. Only paid for hours worked
    6. Physical Requirements:
      1. Crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces
      2. Climb ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various lengths and heights
      3. Lift and carry tools and materials weighing approx. 50 - 75 lbs.

    Immediately after submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions on scheduling your MANDATORY interviews.  Step 1 of the interview process must be scheduled within six (6) weeks of submitting your application.  If you do not receive the email or if you do not have access to receive emails, please call the office at (716) 835-8836.  Please make sure to check your spam/junk folder for the email.
