    All Applicants will be notified via USPS mail in letter form for a date and time to set up an interview. Wait times for interviews may be up to 1 year.

    If your mailing address changes, contact Local 370 to update your application.

    Applicants chosen for the Apprenticeship Program will be drug tested.

  • Plumbers, Pipefitters & Service Trades Apprenticeship Program Fact Sheet

  • Our Apprenticeship Program is registered with the US Department of Labor.

    Wages are governed by registered standards with wage increases scheduled every six months. 

    Apprenticeship duration is 5 years.

    Apprentices will be classified as Building Trades or Service.

    All apprentices attend one day of class every two weeks throughout the five years in the program.

    Building Trades will obtain the following: Journey Plumbers License, Medical Gas License, and Backflow Tester License.

    Service will obtain the following: CFC License, Electrical knowledge, and Equipment service skills.

    Apprentices will be dispatched to contractors (employers) that are often temporary in nature, lay-offs are common.

    Work conditions could include working inside, and outside, in extreme conditions such as heat, cold, rain, mud, underground, heights, loud environments, heavy lifting, and machinery.

    We graduate 90% of our apprentices and they go on to have long careers in the Plumbing/HVAC industry advancing on an individual basis, some becoming foreman, or superintendents, and many working with the tools until retirement.

  • An ACT WorkKeys Assessment is required to complete the apprenticeship application.

  • Pipe Trades Apprenticeship Form #1

  • QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY FOR AN APPLICANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A PROBATIONARY PIPE TRADES APPRENTICESHIP

    1. Must be 18 years of age or older.

    2. Complete the application and submit with copies of the following documents:

    a. Test results from the following Michigan WorkKeys assessments: Workplace Documents, Graphic Literacy, and Applied Math.

    b. High School diploma or a high school equivalency (GED) certificate.

    c. High School and College transcripts documenting classes taken and grades attained.

    d. Proof of residency in any of the following counties: Genesee, Shiawassee, or Lapeer.

    e. Birth certificate or other such document for proof of age.

    f. Military transfer or discharge Form DD-214, if applicable.

    3. Appear for interview when notified.

    4. Submit yourself to a background check and drug test, as prescribed by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.

  • IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED AS AN APPRENTICE, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

    1. Serve as a probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (1700-2000 hours of on-the-job training);

    2. Serve a 5-year apprenticeship including the probationary period (8500-10,000 hours of on-the- job training);

    3. Report for work on a regular basis;

    4. Provide for your transportation to and from the job site;

    5. Work under the direction of a Journey Worker on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily;

    6. Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes;

    7. Purchase text material for use in related training classes is required;

    8. Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee.

    9. Be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the Apprenticeship Program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of yourself or others;

    10. A background check and drug test will be required at the start of the Apprenticeship Program, and Apprentices will be subject to random drug testing throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship Program - the Apprenticeship Program is a drug-free program.

I make this statement to the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee with the understanding that it will be used by the Committee in carrying out its duty in selecting apprentice applicants for entry into the Apprenticeship Program. I further understand that any false statement or omission of material fact may be sufficient for rejection of my application or dismissal after my indenture or employment.

     

    I release all previous employers or other persons from any and all liability and damage of whatsoever nature on account of furnishing information requested which is to be used in determining my eligibility for entry into the Apprenticeship Program.

     

    I also understand that a background check including, but not limited to, a review of any criminal history, civil litigation history, credit history, and driving offenses will be performed by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee and the results of this background check will be considered with all other information provided as part of this application. To the extent permitted by law, I waive any and all claims against the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for any actions it may take as a result of the information obtained from the background check.
