  • Divisions
    Ohio Invitational is an Ability Meet with Heartland Racing Series for eligible individuals. Skaters will be grouped according to their seed time, with consideration being given to the age of skaters in each group. With the exception of Heartland, divisions may be mixed-gender. Per USS guidelines, all skaters will race on an appropriate size track.

    Ability - Skaters 11 and younger and skaters ages 12 and older who do not meet the Heartland qualifying time standard will compete in the Ability Division. Consideration will be given to the age of skaters in each group.

    Heartland - Skaters ages 12 and older as of July 1, 2025, who meet the qualifying time standard of 1:48.0 for men and 1:58.0 for women in the 1000 meters. The time standard must be from a sanctioned short track meet, from July 1, 2024, or later. Depending on registration numbers, there may be two groups in each gender, Heartland A and Heartland B.

    I acknowledge that, as in all sports and exercise, there is an element of risk and that I am physically and medically capable of participating in skating activities. In consideration of the acceptance of my application and permission to participate as an entrant, competitor or volunteer in any of the Ohio Speedskating Association events, activities, or training sessions.

    I myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns RELEASE, WAIVE and FOREVER DISCHARGE the Ohio Speedskating Association, its organizers and coaches, US Speedskating, Cleveland Heights Community Center, City of Cleveland Heights, and all other associations, sanctioning bodies and sponsoring companies, and all their respective agents, officials, servants, contractors, representatives, and assigns of and from all claims, demands, damage costs, expense, actions, and causes of action, OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER, whether in law or equity, in respect of death, injury, loss or damage to my person or property HOWSOEVER CAUSED, arising or to arise by reason of my participation in any event organized by the club, whether as a spectator, participant, competitor, or otherwise, whether prior to, during or subsequent to the event and not withstanding the same may have been contributed to or by the negligence of any of the aforesaid.

    I further undertake to skate safely and wear protective equipment at all times.  All skaters must wear an ANSI/SNELL certified helmet, cut resistant neck guard, knee pads, protective eye wear, long sleeves and pants, and full fingered gloves. A suit can be worn that incorporates knee pads and a neck guard.  Cut protection suit recommended for all skaters, but especially those competing in Heartland Series.  All safety gear must be properly worn BEFORE exiting heatbox.  Skate tip radius cannot exceed 1-cm and will be verified prior to check-in.

  • LINDSAY'S LAW

  • All athletes aged under 18 participating in an organized sporting event in the State of Ohio must complete Lindsay’s Law training, and have a waiver on file with OSA annually.  Parents and coaches are also required to view video raising awareness of the danger of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth athletes.

    Format
    The format of the Meet is a two-round progression, one heat, and a final for all skaters. The number of finals is based on the number of skaters in the heats. Progression to finals will be determined by the number of skaters in each group and then by position and next fastest. The Super Events are based on overall points. All athletes will skate in a Super Final (A, B, C...) for their longest distance. 

    Divisions
    Skaters must skate in their registered divisions. There will be no exceptions.

    Cancellations
    Refunds at the discretion of the Meet Director.

    Conduct
    All athletes are expected to abide by their governing body’s (USS or SSC), Code of Conduct, and by all rules and directions issued by the meet organizer and officials.

    Event Preparation
    All athletes, and for younger skaters their parents or coaches, are responsible for ensuring that they are prepared to skate and are outside of the heat box for each of their events.

    Photography
    The meet is being photographed, by attending the meet you consent to have your photo taken. The photographs may be used for the purposes of advertising, editorial, or other promotional work.
