About the Program
The Volunteer Industry Exposure Program connects international students and emerging professionals with real Australian workplaces for structured, short-term learning experiences. Participants attend the workplace up to 10 hours per week for a maximum of three months. This is not employment — it’s a safe, educational opportunity that helps learners build confidence, understand workplace culture, and connect with industry professionals.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, supervised environment that meets WHS standards.
- Deliver a short Day-1 induction (tour, exits, PPE, emergency plan, reporting procedures).
- Supervise participants at all times while on site.
- Allow observation and assistance in low-risk, supervised tasks.
- Notify SkillReady immediately of any incident or near-miss (form provided).
What You’re Not Required to Do
- Deliver lessons or formal training sessions.
- Provide assessments, mentoring, or performance reviews.
- Treat the participant as an employee or assign unsupervised/unsafe work.
Insurance & Safety
All volunteer placements arranged through SkillReady are covered by internship insurance facilitated via Aon Risk Services Australia Limited, underwritten by CGU Insurance. This insurance provides protection for both hosts and participants while the placement is underway anywhere in Australia.
- Public & Products Liability (General Liability) — Limit $20 million per occurrence / per period of insurance – covers third-party injury or property damage.
- Personal Accident Cover — Death benefit $100 000 and Weekly benefit $1 000 for accidental injury during placement or direct travel to and from the site (no excess).
- Coverage Area: Anywhere in Australia for approved SkillReady placements.
Each participant is required to hold current internship insurance arranged through SkillReady before commencement. Participants also complete the SkillReady Safety Induction & Quiz covering workplace health & safety, conduct, communication, and lawful diversity. PPE is supplied by participants; hosts may provide small disposable or incidental items if required.
