THRIVE Lifeline is currently accepting interest forms for candidates who will be invited to apply for our Non-Carceral Community Care Practitioner roles.
Please read the following carefully before you begin your application.
Who are we?
THRIVE Lifeline is a fully grassroots organization, providing a variety of non-carceral support, by and for multiply marginalized communities. We have watched too many in our communities fall prey to systemic marginalization only to face dismissive, unsupportive, and sometimes dangerous interactions through traditional mental health avenues, and we are dedicated to changing the landscape of mental health support.
As a team, we are committed to providing the highest quality non-carceral support we can possibly provide our communities, understanding the expansive harm and degradation our people have faced through carceral approaches and systemic oppression. We understand that non-carceral support is far from easyand we make a commitment to unlearning biased carceral frameworks we have learned through our lifetimes. We are dedicated to relearning, to ongoing education, mentorship, and team accountability, and regularly interrogating our practices so that we can do better.
The core qualities of each invited applicant include the following:
- Coachability – receptive to guidance, consistently trying new approaches.
- Reliability – consistent in showing up, meeting commitments, and being dependable.
- Intentionality – thoughtful and purposeful in words, actions, and presence.
- Engagement with Feedback – willing to receive, reflect on, respond thoroughly to, and implement feedback.
- Dedication to Learning – actively pursuing growth through study, training, and reflection.
- Commitment to Community – showing up for THRIVE team and community members and prioritizing collective care over individual ego.
- Motivation to Grow – self-driven to evolve, deepen practice, and avoid complacency.
- Willingness to be Vulnerable – comfortable appropriately sharing lived experience and developing genuine human connections
- Comfort with Stigmatized Conversations – able to talk openly, respectfully, and non-judgmentally about suicide, self-harm, and other stigmatized mental health experiences.
- Resilience – capacity to navigate challenges with humility, patience, and persistence.
Note that we do not expect anyone to arrive fully formed in all of these areas. What matters most is your willingness to grow into them. Our training, mentorship, and ongoing coaching are designed to help you build these qualities in practice. You will be supported every step of the way, and you’ll be part of a community that is learning, unlearning, and becoming better together.
Review Process
Our team reviews interest forms and responds within 48 hours. To become vetted as a potential practitioner applicant, you may be invited to submit responses to sample cases (using our free resources to match THRIVE's voice and approaches), then attend a Non-Carceral Curious session with THRIVE trainees where you will engage in group coaching and a personal interview with a supervisor.
You may then be invited to enter our Community Care Practitioner application process. If we do not currently have capacity, we will let you know whether you are waitlisted. If we feel that you need additional education and practice to make a successful application, we will refer you to those. Successful applications will be sent to Stronger U for review. Stronger U makes final decisions and sends offer letters based on their capacity.
