Glacier Nordic Club is partnering this winter with US Biathlon to build a program here in the Flathead Valley, starting with Biathlon Laser Rifles! This is a great entry into the sport, and safely usable in public locations. While still practicing proper rifle safety and biathlon protocol, we are offering a variety of options for you to try this fun sport.
What is Biathlon? Traditional Biathlon is cross country skiing and shooting a custom 22 caliber long rifle. Novice and junior biathletes will keep the rifles at the range, while experienced and mature biathletes will ski with the rifles on their back. Laser rifles are a lighter, quieter, modified version of this equipment. Our program has no live fire ammunition, but instead specialty laser rifles that can be used in any location. Laser rifles look and feel like a regular biathlon rifle, but there are no “bullets” or loud “shots” and therefore none of the normal safety concerns associated with rifles.
NOTE: All participants are required to either have a Glacier Nordic Season Pass or Day Pass. Participants may bring their own equipment, or rent classic or skate gear at the Glacier Nordic Shop at the Glacier Nordic Center. Equipment rental fees are not included in clinic/session fee, and must be rented for each clinic/session. Please reserve your equipment ahead of time by calling the shop at 406-862-9498.
