    Summit Awards - Jan Phillips Mentor Award

    The Jan Phillips Mentor Award was established to recognize exceptional mentoring of ETSU students by a faculty, staff, alumnus, or a supervisor in a community-based learning experience (such as an internship, co-op, or service-learning experience). A mentor is a person who has demonstrated exceptional guidance in a student's personal development through an ongoing and nurturing relationship. Those eligible for the award include ETSU employees, graduate students, and those who have a contractual agreement with ETSU, such as campus ministers, internship, service-learning or Cooperative Education supervisors, student organization advisor, etc. Nominations are accepted from currently enrolled students, and/or faculty/staff not related to the nominee. Criteria used by the selection committee includes: Mentoring relationship of at least one semester and within the last four years, exceptional effort with students above and beyond job duties, and strength of responses to questions on nomination form. This application must be submitted by Sunday, February 15, 2026 in order to be considered for this award. Award recipients will be acknowledged at the annual Summit Awards Reception. Please note that individuals who have received the Jan Phillips Mentor Award in past years are not eligible for this recommendation a second time. Portions of nomination statements may be read during the ceremony.
