Nominations are open for the SAEM AAAEM Academy Awards. Please help us recognize individuals who are making a difference in the AAAEM. Nominees must be a current AAAEM member. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. Winners will be announced during the AAAEM meeting at the AACEM/AAAEM Annual Retreat in March.
Required Documentation:
- One nomination letter explaining why the candidate merits the award. The nomination letter may be submitted either by a former or current colleague, mentee, or employer.

AAAEM Academy Awards:
Rising Star AAAEM Award
Award Purpose:
The Rising Star Award is a prestigious recognition presented by the Association of Academic Administrators in Emergency Medicine (AAAEM). This award honors an AAAEM member and/or associate member who has demonstrated exceptional promise, leadership, and engagement within the academy during the early stages of their membership.
Eligibility Requirements: Must be an Active Member or Associate Member of AAAEM in good standing and have shown significant participation and/or leadership within the organization during the first four years of membership. This includes contributions to committees, working groups, collaborative initiatives, or other efforts that advance the mission and values of AAAEM.
Award Criteria:
Nominees should exemplify professionalism, innovation, and dedication to the field of academic emergency medicine administration. It is intended to encourage continued involvement and recognize the impact of emerging leaders in shaping the future of the academy.
Award Components: A monetary gift of $500.
Significant Contributions in Academic Emergency Medicine Administration Annual Award
Award Purpose:
The Significant Contributions Award is a recognition presented by the Association of Academic Administrators in Emergency Medicine (AAAEM). This award honors an academic emergency medicine administrator who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the Academy through sustained contributions that have significantly advanced the field of academic emergency medicine administration. The award is intended to recognize individuals who have committed substantial time, expertise, and leadership to AAAEM activities and initiatives.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be an Emeritus or Active Member of AAAEM in good standing.
- Contributions must have occurred within the past three years, with clear documentation of impact.
Award Criteria:
Nominees should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas:
- Leadership & Service: Led or contributed to strategic initiatives that improved AAAEM operations or visibility.
- Operational Impact:Implemented or supported programs for AAAEM initiatives such as the development of tools, resources, or frameworks for AAAEM members.
- Education Contributions: Played a key role in advancing emergency medicine education through AAAEM-sponsored efforts. Authored or contributed to scholarly work.
- Member Engagement & Collaboration: Promoted sharing of best practices among members or facilitated inter-committee partnerships or knowledge exchange.
Award Components: A monetary gift of $750.
James J. Scheulen Lifetime Achievement Award in Academic Emergency Medicine Administration
The AAAEM Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest and most selective honor conferred by the Academy. It recognizes only the most distinguished academic emergency medicine administrators who have demonstrated sustained, transformative leadership and exceptional strategic impact in advancing the mission of academic emergency departments, emergency medicine education, and/or research.
This award is reserved for individuals who have:
- Consistently led institutional or national initiatives that have measurably improved academic emergency medicine operations, education, or research.
- Demonstrated excellence across multiple domains including fiscal stewardship, program development, and collaboration.
- Influenced policy or practice at the institutional, regional, or national level through innovation, advocacy, or scholarly contribution.
- Mentored and developed future leaders in academic emergency medicine administration.
Eligibility Requirements (Minimum Criteria):
- Must be a current AAAEM Full Member in good standing.
- Must have held Full Membership for a minimum of 12 years
- Must have documented evidence of sustained leadership impact over a period of no less than 10 years in academic emergency medicine administration.
Award Amount: $1,000
