We plan to wait until at least age 14 to give our child(ren) their own networked mobile digital device providing unlimited access to each other and all forms of information.
We further plan to delay our children’s use of social-networking apps designed for sharing content, messaging, or connecting anonymously (e.g., Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram) until a minimum age of 16.
We recognize that some platforms (e.g., YouTube Kids, music-streaming services, or educational apps) have social features but may be used under parental guidance at earlier ages. We plan to use our discretion for age-appropriate, non-social apps or platforms used primarily for learning or entertainment.
If you would like your child to have a basic phone that just calls and texts, you can still sign the pledge!
Aggregate information will be tracked and shared publicly by student grade level and division. No individual name(s) will be shared by St. Edmund's Academy. You may feel encouraged to spread the word to your fellow parents and peers in support of this collective action agreement.
