Exhibition Statement
Newburyport Art is seeking any and all artwork that engages in abstraction.
Abstraction is many things. It is an adjective, a noun and sometimes even a verb! To abstract something is an interuption to the expected, a deconstruction of the world around us into its fractured and diverse parts. It invites the viewer to interpret form, shape, space and meaning.
I want abstraction to invite a dialogue. In the words of installation artist Nikita Gale, "What I want the work to be doing in space is creating a scenario for someone who's experiencing the work. It's about the embodied experience of the work. It's almost like I think of each of my works and each installation as a portal or an invitation to a conversation." Please submit your abstract work and join us in this conversation.
Sincerely, Belle Carver Struck
The call is open to all disciplines and submissions can be 2 or 3-D, video, performance and installation. It may utilize any methods or materials essental to achieving your vision, but is also original work and can be safely implemented in our gallery spaces.
Selection Process
All works must adhere to the show's theme and follow the requirements listed for our ability to safely display in our galleries. Artists whose work is accepted, but methods for display are not in keeping with our requirements will be contacted to make any necessary adjustments/modifications.
With a mission of accessibility and inclusivity in the arts, all work that is on-theme is likely to be accepted for the show at the discretion of the Executive Director, and all accepted works will appear in our online shop/gallery (available for purchase)

- Digital images of submissions are ideally high resolution (300 ppi or higher) to allow for the possibility of being used on print posters/banners. Lower resolution is acceptable, but image dimensions should be at least 540 px on the shortest side or they may fail to adequately represent the work in our online store.
