ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Ellis Jerome Shaw Day of Opportunities offers seven (7) $1,000 scholarships. Eligible recipients will either be a high school senior with plans to pursue postsecondary education or a high school graduate who is currently pursuing postsecondary education. The application packet must demonstrate the applicant’s potential for success in their chosen field of study. If the applicant’s GPA on their final transcript is significantly lower, as determined by EJSDO Board of Directors, the scholarship may be forfeited.
A COMPLETED application packet must include the following:
- Completed application with all required fields
- A 400-500 word essay on the following topic: “My Postsecondary Aspirations.” Talk about yourself and your goals after high school.
- A minimum of 2 letters of recommendation from adults who know you well. This may be a school counselor, teacher, administrator, community service sponsor, or pastor. Applicants can either collect the recommendation and then submit with the application or the Recommendors can submit directly through the following link: Scholarship Recommendation Form.
- A statement explaining the financial need for assistance. The statement should be a minimum of one paragraph and between 250-500 words.
- Application certification signatures.
