  • Introduction

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, founded in 1908, is the oldest Greek-lettered organization for African American women. Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter, founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1975, is one of many chapters under the sorority's international umbrella with more than 250,000 members worldwide.

    Locally, Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter has been a beacon of hope, change and promise for those in the greater Nashville community. By exhibiting the founding principles of excellence, unity, friendship, and service to all mankind, Kappa Lambda Omega members have been blessed to serve this community by giving back to those who are less fortunate and investing in our future leaders. Each year, we proudly sponsor scholarships for deserving, young African American women or women of African descent who aspire to pursue a college degree.

    This year, Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter presents five categories of scholarships in support of the 2026 scholarship program:

    • General Chapter Scholarship – awarded in the amount of $1,200 to a graduating high school senior attending any four (4) year accredited college, university or two (2) year community college.
    • Lillian Dunn Thomas Scholarship - awarded in the amount of $1,500 to a graduating high school senior attending Fisk University or Tennessee State University.
    • Donzaleigh Patterson Scholarship – awarded in the amount of $1,500 to a graduating high school senior attending Tennessee State University.
    • The Mary B. Conner Scholarship – awarded in the amount of $1,200 to an undergraduate member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Pi Chapter at Fisk University or Upsilon Eta Chapter at Belmont University.
    • The Elease Jolley Scholarship – awarded in the amount of $1,200 to an undergraduate member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Pi Chapter at Fisk University.

    The Lillian Dunn Thomas and Donzaleigh Patterson scholarships are provided in honor of two members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® who were instrumental in the chartering of Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter.

    The Mary B. Conner and Elease Jolley scholarships are provided in honor of two members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® who are instrumental in Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter. Both members have served the organization in various roles, Mary B. Conner served as the 25th South Eastern Region Director. Elease Jolley served as the Chairman for the 75th South Eastern Regional Conference.

  • High school applicants must meet the following criteria and application procedures listed below to be considered for a 2026 scholarship award.


    The Applicant must:

    • Be enrolled as a full-time high school senior.
    • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of an unweighted 2.5 or above.
    • Be an African American female or a female of African descent.
    • Indicate a financial need to attend college or university.
    • Plan to attend a four-year accredited college or university, or two-year college.
    • Be a Resident of Middle Tennessee.

  • High School Application Process

  • Applicants are encouraged to use the checklist below to ensure all criteria are met prior to submitting the application packet. Additionally, Kappa Lambda Omega chapter members and their family members are not eligible for scholarships.


    The Applicant must submit the following materials:

    1. Completed application through this form.

    2. Typed 500-word Essay addressing one of the 2026 essay topics.

    a. Applicants may either type their essay directly on this form or upload a completed essay through this form.

    3. Counselor Evaluation Form. 

    a. The Counselor Evaluation Form is included with this application and should be filled out, signed, and submitted by your high school counselor.

    4. Official High School Transcript (including ACT/SAT test scores).

    a. Your high school counselor should submit and upload your official high school transcript, including your ACT/SAT scores, on the Counselor Evaluation Form.

    5. Two typed letters of recommendation (excluding family members).

    a. Letters from Teachers, Mentors and Community/Religious Leaders are recommended.

    b. Letters should be submitted by the individual recommender via email to scholarship@kappalambdaomega.com.

    6. Applicants selected may be asked to participate in an interview.

    a. The Scholarship Committee will work to the extent possible to accommodate the schedules of both the applicants and the interviewers. Business attire is required.

     ALL APPLICATIONS AND MATERIALS MUST BE "RECEIVED ELECTRONICALLY" BY THE APPLICATION DEADLINE OF JANUARY 30, 2026.

    Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

    • Be enrolled as a full-time student at Fisk University or Belmont University.
    • Be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Pi Chapter or Upsilon Eta Chapter.
    • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of an unweighted 2.75 or above.
    • Indicate a financial need.

    The Elease Jolley Scholarship

    • Be enrolled as a full-time student at Fisk University.
    • Be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Pi Chapter.
    • Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of an unweighted 2.75 or above.
    • Indicate a financial need.

  • Please make note of next steps as it pertains to the scholarship review process:

    1. All applications and materials must be electronically received by the application deadline of January 30, 2026. Incomplete and late application packets will not be considered.

    2. Please remember to submit the other materials required, in addition to this application form submission. All such materials must also be submitted by the application deadline of January 30, 2026, or your application will not be considered.:

    a. Two typed letters of recommendation (excluding family members).  Letters from Teachers, Mentors and Community/Religious Leaders are recommended. Letters should be submitted by the individual recommender via email to scholarship@kappalambdaomega.com.

    b. Counselor Evaluation Form (High School Applicants Only).

    c. Official School Transcripts:

    For high school applicants: your high school counselor should submit and upload your official high school transcript, including your ACT/SAT scores, on the Counselor Evaluation Form.

    For undergraduate applicants: your official college transcript should be submitted directly from the college via email to scholarship@kappalambdaomega.com. 

    2. If your scholarship application and materials are received by the deadline, it will be reviewed for scholarship consideration. 

    3. Applicants selected may be asked to participate in an interview. The Scholarship Committee will work to the extent possible to accommodate the schedules of both the applicant and the interviewers.

    4. Applicants will be scored during the interview phase (if applicable) in accordance with the scholarship criteria.


    5. Once the interview phase (if applicable) has been completed, the Scholarship Committee will convene to select the scholarship recipients.


    6. Applicants will be notified on the status of their application upon the decision of the Scholarship Committee.
