    2026 Application for College Scholarship
  • Dear Student:

    Congratulations on your senior year! The Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated invites eligible students to apply for our annual college scholarships.

    Please review the eligibility criteria. All parts of the application must be received by Sunday, February 1, 2026 to be considered. If you have any questions, please contact us at scholarships@gwinnettdst.org.

  • Scholarship Eligibility

  • All Black/African American high school seniors who attend school in Gwinnett County (excluding high schools in Centerville, Snellville, and Loganville) are eligible to apply.

    Applicants who are the children of members of the Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are not eligible for this scholarship.

    Application Requirements:

    A complete online application consists of the following:

    • A typed essay on a selected topic (refer to Essay tab)
    • An electronic copy of your high school transcript (refer to Education tab)
    • Three (3) electronically submitted letters of recommendation - preferably on letterhead (refer to Recommendations tab)

    All items must be submitted electronically by Sunday, February 1, 2026.

    All completed applications will be reviewed and scored by the Scholarship Committee of the Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter. The top-scoring applicants will be granted an interview in March 2026, to determine the scholarship recipients. All scholarship recipients will be notified no later than April 10, 2026.

    Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, non-profit public service organization with a membership of over 300,000 college educated women in over 1,000 chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, The Virgin Islands, Bermuda, The Bahamas, Jamaica, United Arab Emirates, West Africa and The Republic of Korea. Founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University, the organization was established to provide programs promoting human welfare and currently has a five point focus in the areas of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. 
     
    Chartered in March 2003, the Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter (GCAC) has over 600 members. GCAC is committed to making a positive difference in the Gwinnett community through exemplary service programs that include:
     
    Δ     Delta Academy/Delta GEMS/EMBODI - mentoring and personal development programs for
           young women and men;
     
    Δ     Taboo Tea -  a program focusing on the health and wellness needs of adult women;
     
    Δ     Cotillion~Beautillion  Program - a biennial enrichment program for high school juniors and
           seniors who have demonstrated exemplary moral standards and plan to attend a post-secondary
           school. The program culminates with a formal Cotillion~Beautillion Ball.
     
    Δ     Scholarship Program - an annual program that has awarded approximately $311,000 in
           scholarship monies to high school seniors.
     

    GCAC has also formed an alliance with Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV), Paint Gwinnett Pink, Gwinnett Relay for Life, and Gwinnett Great Days of Service. Additionally, the chapter supports international relief efforts and holds local political forums, voter registration drives and health fairs.

  • PART IV - Recommendations (3)

  • Please submit the names and email addresses of three (3) references:

    • Two (2) Core Academic Teachers (language arts, math, science, social studies, foreign language)
    • One (1) Community Service Leader (Community service must be non-profit and unpaid service. Examples might include Hands On Atlanta, Gwinnett Days of Service, Hosea Feed the Hungry, AIDS Walk Atlanta, Gwinnett Relay for Life, Mentoring/Tutoring and Outreach through your school, youth, or faith group)

    Each reference will receive an email from GCAC to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Each letter of recommendation must include the following:

    • The reference's name, occupation, telephone number, and email address. 
    • The length of time the person submitting the reference has known and worked with you, along with a clear description of the relationship (Core Teacher or Community Service Leader).
    • A description of your character, leadership, and work ethic.
    • (For Community Service) The type of community service activities in which you have been involved, along with your specific role.
  • *It is strongly recommended that you personally follow up with each reference to ensure that your letter of recommendation is complete with the aforementioned information and submitted on or before the deadline.




  • PART V - ESSAY

  • ESSAY:

    You will be assessed on your ability to communicate your thoughts in a clear, concise, and coherent manner without the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Your essay must be two typed pages, double-spaced, in 12 pt Times New Roman font. Include your name at the top of each page.

    Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a public service organization founded in 1913. Since its founding, the organization has been concerned with addressing issues and challenges faced by the Black/African American community, many of which also impact American society as a whole. In an effort to address these matters, the organization has a Five Point Programmatic Thrust, which includes:

    ▲ International Awareness and Involvement

    ▲ Physical and Mental Health

    ▲ Political Awareness and Involvement
