  • Welcome to the Gold Coast Basketball application portal for a position as a Gold Coast Basketball Representative Coach/Assistant Coach.

    All coaches must attend our trials and team selection sessions, dates for this program are below:

    Girls Trials Stage 1: Tuesday October 14, 21 and 28th 4pm till 6pm. Cut to top 50 players.

    Girls Combine Day: Sunday November 16th 8am till 12pm. Final teams announced and program information delivered

    Boys Trials Stage 1: Thursday October 16, 23rd, 4pm till 6pm. Open to all athletes. Cut to top 65-70 players.

    Boys Trials Stage 2: Tuesday November 4, 11th, 4pm till 6pm. Top 65-70 players only. Cut to 50 after second session.

    Boys Combine Day: Sunday November 16th 8am till 12pm. Final teams announced and program information delivered

    All sessions are at Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre

    This is the trial process.  Note that independent coaches will be a part of the selection process.

  • Head Coach Selection Criteria

    • Must adopt the Gold Coast Basketball Style of play. Playbook available.
    • Possess or be willing to obtain Level 1 coaching accreditation.
    • Possess previous coaching experience or basketball experience at a level that suggests you will be capable of providing quality coaching to the relevant age group.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership for the team (staff and athletes), including organisation, planning and disciplinary requirements.
    • Demonstrated understanding and ability to communicate appropriately in the coordination of selections, preparation, competition and post-competition phases of the season.
    • Be knowledgeable of current coaching trends and have a desire for continuous improvement of your coaching skills.
    • Must hold a current Bluecard
    • Must complete and show certificate with the "Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction course"
    • Ability to attend and coach at all games trainings and tournaments.
    • Must attend trials and combine day sessions, players will be selected into rep teams from this program
  • Assistant Coach Selection Criteria

    • Must attend Gold Coast Basketball coach development sessions, and adopt the Gold Coast Basketball Style of play.
    • Possess or be willing to obtain Level 1 coaching accreditation.
    • Must hold a current Bluecard
    • Must complete and show certificate with the "Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction course"
    • Display a positive attitude.
    • Display ability to work with and under the direction, leadership and guidance of the Head Coach, Coaching Coordinator’s and Development Manager.
    • Have ambitions to continue your coaching development, and move towards Head Coaching in the future.
    • Must attend Try outs and team selection sessions, players will be selected into rep teams from this program
  • Coaching Accreditation

  • To hold a Gold Coast Representative coaching position you must hold a level 1 coaching certificate (at a minimum) or attend the level 1 coaches course to become accredited.  Gold Coast Basketball will hold a level 1 coaches course prior to the start of season.

    U14 Teams - Note we will only be entering teams that we have suitable coaching applications for. If there are teams listed below that we have not received coaching applications for, we will not be in a position to nominate the team for the 2025/2026 representative season.

    1. To be considered for a position, each Coach and Assistant MUST have or agree to attain the level one coaches accreditation before the rep season commences; Gold Coast will meet the cost associated with this, and coaches must be available for all rep trials on the following dates.
    2. All appointed coaches immediately become a part of the selection panel for all teams in that age group/gender; therefore, they are responsible for assisting in selecting all teams. 
    3. Gold Coast Basketball has implemented coaching policies for all age groups, as a Gold Coast coach you must agree to implement the training/playing guidelines as outlined by the Basketball Development Manager (These will be discussed at the interview stage and includes GC Basketball Style of Play).
    4. Coaches related to players (that have applied for positions) will not be a part of team selections related to that child's team.  
    5. All coaching positions are held on a volunteer basis. Gold Coast Basketball retains the right to remove coaches that are not acceptable in the view of the development officer.
