The American Montessori Society Living Legacy Award is an annual tribute to an individual whose lifetime of dedication, leadership, and service has made a profound impact on the AMS community. We invite you to nominate a Montessori educator who is a respected model of Montessori values and who has had significant influence and made contributions to the Montessori movement, including through engagement in peace and social justice or international Montessori efforts. The Recognition Committee will evaluate nominees based on these criteria, as well as their years of Montessori experience and service, their AMS-affiliated involvement and volunteerism, and their broad impact in roles such as educator, administrator, author, mentor, activist, or leader.
Before submitting your nomination, please review the information below:
This form is comprehensive and includes questions about the nominee’s career, life experiences, leadership roles, and contributions to the Montessori community and AMS. Before completing and submitting this form, nominators are expected to meet with the individual they wish to nominate for Living Legacy. This conversation will ensure that you have the necessary information to fully represent the nominee’s qualifications.
As the nominator, your role is to present a complete and compelling portrait of the nominee. By drawing on the insights gained through your conversation, you can highlight the nominee’s experiences, achievements, and contributions in a way that reflects both depth and authenticity. This level of detail is essential to provide the Recognition Committee with the context they need to evaluate each nominee thoughtfully and make an informed decision.
Who is eligible to be nominated?
- Living Legacy nominees must be current members of AMS.
- Current AMS leadership and representatives – including staff, commissioners, and board members – are not eligible for nomination.
- The nominee must not have been a recipient of a previous AMS recognition award (i.e. Living Legacy, Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch Award, Innovator Award, Ambassador Award, Benefactor Award, or AMS Service Award).
- The recipient of the Living Legacy Award will be expected to present at speaking engagements to aid in raising funds for the Teacher Education Scholarship Fund. The nominee, if selected, should be comfortable speaking publicly and be able to serve as a representative of AMS and the Montessori Community.
Please note, only one nomination form per nominee will be reviewed by the Recognition Committee. If multiple forms are submitted for one nominee, AMS Staff will contact the nominators and ask them to collaborate on submitting one nomination form.
The Recognition Committee thanks you for honoring your colleague through participation in this nomination process. Whether or not your nominee is selected as the next Living Legacy, it is a great honor to be nominated for this prestigious award.
