Rules and Regulations for the Jabberwock Program
1. All monies raised through participation in Jabberwock will be used solely for the support of the scholarship program.
2. Jabberwock participants are not allowed to use the name of Wilmington (DE) Alumnae Chapter (WAC), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST), to advertise fundraising events or for any other purpose. The only authorized use of the organization's names is on materials produced by the organization.
3. Participants earn scholarship points through their participation in program activities. In addition, each participant will be credited with one point for each dollar reported from fundraising activities. The high school participant with the highest number of cumulative points is crowned "Miss Jabberwock" at the closing activity.
4. Each girl is expected to participate in all aspects of the Jabberwock program. Special recognition will be given to the participant who earns the highest number of program points granted for attendance.
5. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for participation in Jabberwock. Each participant must submit an official transcript with a cumulative unweighted numerical GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale to the post office box or email address provided by the committee. An "official transcript" is one that is signed by the school counselor. Either the counselor or student may mail or email the transcript. However, a transcript mailed or emailed by a student will be disqualified if there is evidence of tampering. If mailed, the transcript must be postmarked no later than October 14, 2025. If emailed, the transcript must be received by 11:59 PM October 14, 2025. The committee will not accept hand delivered transcripts.
6. Each participant is expected to conduct herself appropriately at all times. Behavior issues may result in dismissal from the program.
7. It is imperative that each participant arrive on time or early for all scheduled events. Arriving at least ten minutes ahead of schedule promotes a relaxed atmosphere and ensures that activities begin promptly. Any participant who arrives thirty minutes after an activity begins or leaves thirty minutes before the end of an activity will not receive credit points for that activity. However, she will be marked "present" for the activity, and it will count towards her overall attendance record.
8. Each participant is expected to have the appropriate materials (as specified in advance by the Jabberwock Committee) for each phase of the personal development activity.
9. All monies collected by participants must be reported in accordance with the established financial guidelines. For submitting funds, the preferred methods are business checks, certified checks, money orders, or using the online payment portal.
10. Financial information is confidential. Participants shall not discuss finances with each other or anyone else outside their immediate family.
11. Each participant is responsible for tickets received. The value of all tickets unaccounted for through tickets sales will be deducted from monies collected by the participants and will not count towards their total points.
12. All scholarship funds granted through the Jabberwock Program will be paid directly to the college or university. A written request by the participant and written verification of enrollment from the institution are required before funds are dispersed. No monies will be sent directly to the recipient, parent or guardian.
13. The scholarship awarded through Jabberwock will be held for up to seven years after awarded. To apply for the Jabberwock scholarship funds, the participant must submit a written request and proof of enrollment in an undergraduate program. The monies will be sent directly to the college or university. No monies will be sent to the recipient, parent or guardian.
I understand scholarships are decided at the sole and absolute discretion of WAC. The Jabberwock Committee's interpretation of the rules and regulations and their decision regarding scholarship distribution is final. By my signature below, I certify that I have read and/or have had the rules and regulations read to me. I further affirm that I understand the conditions of my participation in Jabberwock and that I voluntarily agree to comply with the requirements and expectations outlined in this document and communicated to me verbally.
