Sport Hawke's Bay and EIT Sports Scholarship
  • The Sport Hawke's Bay and EIT Sports Scholarship is designed to support student-athletes who are striving to maintain a balance between their academic studies and sporting commitments. This scholarship offers financial assistance to help ease the pressures of juggling both pursuits, enabling students to focus on achieving excellence in the classroom and on the field.

    This scholarship is awarded annually to three individuals—both new students about to begin their studies and current students returning to EIT Hawke's Bay. Students who actively represent a sports team within the Hawke’s Bay region are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.


    Scholarship value:
    $2,000

    Applications open: 12th December 2025
    Applications close: 9th February 2026 at 4:00 pm


    Eligibility criteria:
     

    • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Enrolled as a full-time student at EIT (either starting or returning)
    • Actively involved in a sports team or club in Hawke’s Bay

     

    Your scholarship submission must include:

     A written response addressing the following:

    • Your short-term and long-term sporting goals
    • An outline of any recent sporting achievements
    • An explanation of how this sports scholarship will support your ability to train and study in Hawke's Bay

    Sporting Contact Information, including:

    • The name of the sports organisation you are representing 
    • Your contact person at this organisation (please include their name, role, phone number, and email)
    • A letter of support from your contact person, explaining how and why they believe this scholarship will support you, including details on how it would help you train and study in Hawke’s Bay

     
    Application outcome: 

    The granting of the scholarship will be assessed by a panel comprising of members of Sport Hawke's Bay and EIT.

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by phone and/or email by the end of March 2026.

    The letter of support should outline their relationship to you, describe your sporting character and achievements, and explain how the scholarship would benefit your training and study in Hawke's Bay. This information helps the selection panel understand your potential and the level of support you have within your sporting community.

  • TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    1. Meet the entry criteria of their intended programme of study.
    2. Complete a minimum of four promotional tasks throughout the year, which are likely to include,
      • Two posts on the EIT website
      • One presentation at a Sport Hawke's Bay event and one school-related event
    3. The recipient must behave in a manner appropriate to a sports scholar at all times. Any conduct by the recipient that may bring the awarding organisations into disrepute may invalidate the scholarship.
    4. Payment is conditional on the applicant completing the first two weeks of study at EIT.
    5. If the recipient does not complete the year of study for which the scholarship was paid;
      • They will be expected to refund the full value of the scholarship, or
      • Refund a proportionate amount used for that year, as decided by the selection panel.
    6. The recipiant may also be asked to refund the full or proportional amount if:
      • They are unable to complete the required tasks, or
      • They behave in a manner that may bring the funding organisations into disrepute.
