TO THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS ASSEMBLED

To the Honorable Representatives and Senators,

For almost 20 years, some of the most predatory lenders imaginable like Sallie Mae and other vile Wall Street loan providers, have profited from the financial enslavement of millions of young Americans and their parents. U.S. student loan debt has skyrocketed to over $1.75 trillion in the past decades, more so than any other form of debt in the country. This has not happened by accident. For years, a malicious conspiracy to create the current situation has been planned and carried out by such lenders ~ and members of the United States Congress are complicit. The crisis has been worsened by legislation, influenced by lender lobbyists that has allowed interest rate increases and loan amount escalations, rather than reductions, leaving borrowers with no escape or recourse.

The system has ensnared an entire generation of Americans into a lifetime of debt ~ a form of SLAVERY ~ INDENTURED SERVITUDE ~ in the country that was the first to establish a true democracy on the planet. A nation once known as the HOME OF THE FREE. Sadly, it is no longer that for millions of Americans.

Our society has become so corrupt that these high-interest loans and deceptive practices ~ that would have been seen as illegal by older generations ~ have become commonplace and accepted. Immoral practices that put profits before people. It's time to end this cycle and hold these institutions and the people running them accountable.

Each Signatory who has signed this petition, is a U.S. citizen and voter, making their voices clearly heard ~ demanding that our elected officials take immediate action to pass meaningful student loan reform.

We Herewith Call for the United States Congress, to Pass said Bill, to Enact:

A 2% Usury Law for Student Loans ~ To permanently cap all student loan interest rates at 2%.
Affordable Higher Education ~ Ensuring that college enriches society as a whole, not just Wall Street profiteers.
Stricter Accountability ~ Mandatory jail time for executives and board members who commit fraud, abuse servicing laws, or violate transparency rules.
Full Transparency ~ All loan documents and servicing practices must be clear, honest, and accessible.
A New System for the Future ~ A tax-funded community college network that invests in our children’s futures, not in the pockets of greedy bankers.
