CHILD ABSENCES
· The client must notify the provider before the scheduled starting time whenever a child will not be coming to care due to illnesses or any other reason.
· If your child does not arrive as expected, and I have not heard from you, I will attempt to call you. If no answer, I will attempt to contact your emergency contacts. If there is no answer, I will contact the police department.
· The client must pay for services whether or not the child attends.
BAD WEATHER CLOSINGS:
- I will notify you as soon as possible if my program will be closed because of inclement weather. I do follow the Kindred School District closings for bad weather. **Please note, if you are able to make it here safely, I will generally be available for care**
- You are required to notify me as soon as possible if you will not be bringing your child to my program due to inclement weather.
- The client will be charged for inclement weather closing due to closing of the facility.
- The client will be charged if children do not attend due to inclement weather.
INJURY, ACCIDENT, AND MEDICAL EMERGENCY POLICY
Lil’ Wiggles & Giggles Daycare maintains strict protocols to ensure that all injuries, accidents, and medical emergencies are handled promptly and safely. All procedures in this section are mandatory and must be followed by all parents and guardians.
1. Minor Injuries- Minor injuries such as scrapes, bumps, and bruises may occur despite careful supervision.
- Immediate and appropriate first aid will be administered.
- Parents will be notified at pick-up or in the daily report.
- Repeated unsafe behavior will be addressed with parents and may require a behavior plan.
2. Serious Injuries and Medical Emergencies- All serious injuries or medical emergencies will be managed with urgency and in full compliance with emergency procedures.
The provider will:
1. Administer immediate first aid.
2. Contact 911 when necessary.
3. Notify parents/guardians immediately.
4. Ensure the child is transported to the nearest hospital, Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, unless EMS determines otherwise.
5. Require parents/guardians to meet their child at the hospital or designated location without delay.
**The Emergency Binder and all emergency equipment will be with the provider at all times during an emergency, including evacuations, injuries, drills, outings, or situations requiring transport or relocation.
Parents are fully responsible for all medical costs, including ambulance or emergency transport. The provider and family will not be held liable for any injury, illness, or medical event occurring on daycare premises or during daycare-related activities.
3. Evacuation Procedures
During a fire, gas leak, structural danger, or any unsafe condition:
- Children will be evacuated immediately to the designated outdoor meeting point.
- Emergency services will be contacted.
- The provider will have the Emergency Binder and emergency equipment in hand during all evacuations.
Parents must pick up their child promptly if the home cannot be re-entered.
4. Poison Ingestion and Burns
If poison ingestion is suspected:
- Poison Control will be contacted immediately, and instructions will be followed exactly.
- 911 will be called if directed or if the situation appears urgent.
For burns:
- First aid will be administered immediately.
- Any burn beyond minor will result in emergency medical services being contacted.
5. Emergency Caregiver Plan- If the provider experiences an unplanned emergency such as sudden illness, accident, or family crisis:
- An approved emergency caregiver may be used.
- Parents will be notified when an emergency caregiver is active.
- If no caregiver is available, parents must pick up their child immediately.
- Failure to comply may result in immediate termination of care.
6. Illness Policy (Strict Enforcement)
This illness policy is enforced without exception for the safety of all children.
No child will be admitted with:
- A fever of 100°F or higher
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Runny or crusty eyes
- Unexplained rash
- Any of the listed symptoms within the last 24 hours
Parents may not medicate a child to hide symptoms in order to attend care. If this occurs, the family may be discharged from the program.
If symptoms appear during the day:
- Parents will be contacted.
- The child must be picked up within 90 minutes.
- Noncompliance may result in termination of services.
Children may return only when they are fever and symptom free for 24 hours without medication, or longer if CDC guidance requires it.
For suspected communicable illnesses:
- The child will be separated from the group and supervised until pickup.
- Families will be notified of possible exposure without identifying information.
7. Payment Expectations Related to Illness
Payment policies are firm and non-negotiable:
Payment is due in full for any day the child is scheduled, regardless of attendance.
This includes:
o Days when the child is sick and does not come
o Days when the child becomes sick and is sent home
o Days the child cannot attend due to ongoing illness or symptoms
No discounts or reductions are given for illness-related absences or early pick-ups.
All illnesses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and in alignment with CDC guidelines; however, the provider has final authority regarding attendance and return-to-care.
