We, the undersigned independent small business owners, residents, visitors, and supporters of the Valencia Corridor, stand united in opposition to the proposed Conditional Use Authorization for Formula Retail/Fitness, Applicant: Club Pilates has over 1200 locations nationwide. at 1034 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA (Case No. 2025-006395CUA). 

Valencia Street proudly holds the moniker of the nation’s longest continuous independent small business corridor, where two designated cultural districts, Calle 24 Latino Cultural District and the American Indian Cultural District, converge in the heart of the Mission District. Together, they form a unique, vibrant, and irreplaceable economic and cultural backbone for San Francisco.

Allowing Formula Retail/Fitness at this location would:

•  Set a precedent for additional chains, permanently altering the character of the corridor.

•  Accelerate rent escalation and displacement of small businesses.

•  Undermine decades of work to preserve the corridor’s independent identity.

•   The hearing is scheduled on October 2nd, Yom Kippur (High Holiday), We are concened that many of our community members will not be able to attend and have their voices heard

“Keep Valencia Local” means protecting the neighborhood’s legacy, affordability, and identity for future generations.

We call on the Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and City leadership to: Deny this Conditional Use Authorization for Formula Retail/Fitness at 1034 Valencia Street (Case No. 2025-006395CUA). Commit to transparent, inclusive decision-making with full community participation.
