• Webinar: The National Climate Risk Assessment and what it means for Australian Local Governments (+ 2025 Snapshot Release)

    11am AEDT Thursday 6th November 2025
  • Local government climate action is an ever-evolving space and it’s been a particularly massive year in climate news in the sector. The National Climate Risk Assessment has just been released and is dominating the news, we were excited to see the Local Government Climate Review referenced no less than seven times – which is a win for the 120 local governments who provided input in 2024 (Well done!).

But this is not all, join our webinar to understand how you can tie all the threads together to get the best outcome for your community and your organisation.

At the webinar we will also be releasing the 2023/24 emissions profiles on the Snapshot Climate platform, and while we will of course provide the opportunity to dig into the data questions (we love it just as much as you do!), this year we will be broadening our gaze.

The webinar will focus on weaving together some of the key threads running through the sector currently and what it means for local government including diving into:

    ·         Australian National Risk Assessment

    ·         COP 30 and 31 (come on Adelaide!)

    ·         Australia’s 2035 targets

    ·         Mandatory Climate Reporting and Disclosure

In conversation with expert speakers, we will discuss how council practitioners are bringing together these different themes, policies, requirements and events to form a unified narrative within their local governments. This webinar is a must attend to find out how to leverage the current national momentum to get the best outcomes for your community.

  • A bit about Snapshot

The Snapshot Climate Tool, developed by Ironbark Sustainability in collaboration with Beyond Zero Emissions, has been providing free and accessible emissions information since 2019. The Snapshot Climate tool continues to add value to the efforts of councils and communities around Australia to reduce emissions.
  • We’re very grateful to our 2025-2026 Snapshot Sponsors: City of Stonnington, City of Hobart, City of Whittlesea, Whitehorse City Council, Cairns Regional Council, Shire of Augusta Margaret River, Mitchell Shire Council, City of Unley, and Singelton Council. It’s thanks to these councils who have jumped on board to support Snapshot that emissions profiles and climate information remains free and accessible for their communities - and all communities - around Australia.

  • Hive Mind

We are considering investing further in Snapshot including early access to snapshot data and data provision at postcode level. To understand if we should invest in these two specific features we have a few questions for you, none of this is binding, but will guide us in our work.
  • 1. Early access to Snapshot data. When reporting community emissions, Councillors and the community want the most up to date profiles, and we often get requests for emissions data for the most recent financial year. Snapshot currently has a lag of sixteen months; however, with greater resourcing we could make this current (e.g. this year you could access 2023/24 and 2024/25 profiles.

  • 2. Data @ postcode level. Council areas consist of many communities, each with unique demographic profiles, cultural and financial resources, and housing and business types. When engaging the community in emissions reduction actions having information available at the postcode level can be a valuable tool for tailoring and evaluating programs. We can provide postcode level data for – solar PV potential, solar PV uptake, vehicle registrations (including EVs), electricity consumption, waste generation and a range of other data. For a package of three of these data sets:
