History of Giti

Giti's history began in 1951 with PT Gajah Tunggal, a bicycle tire and inner tube manufacturer in Indonesia. The company later expanded into China in 1993, adopting the name Giti Tire to reflect its growth into producing a wider range of tires. Giti continued its global expansion by establishing offices in the US and Europe in the 2000s and a manufacturing plant in the United States in 2017. Today, Giti Tire is headquartered in Singapore and is a leading global tire manufacturer, known for its diverse product range and expansion into original equipment manufacturing and motorsports.

Giti x Volkswagen World Record Attempt
 

Giti Tire has joined forces with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) to support Challenge4’s Guinness World Record attempt to visit the most countries in a zero-emission vehicle journey in the fully electric VW ID. Buzz.

Covering over 80,000 kilometres and taking in about 75 countries across the continents of Europe, Central Asia, Oceania, Asia, Latin and North America, the journey will take over 8 months.

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is fitted with GitiSynergyH2 tyres in sizes 235/60 R18 on the front and 255/55 R18 on the rear axles, as per the Original Equipment (OE) agreement which commenced with VWCV in September 2023.

The fitment was the manufacturer’s first electric vehicle (EV) nomination in Europe, and Giti will be using the Guinness World Record attempt to demonstrate its advanced EV tyre technology by proving performance under real-world conditions and long-term commitment to durability, safety and sustainability.

Tire Innovation with 93% Sustainable Material

Giti Tire breaks new ground with its latest innovation— Giti Tire achieving 93% sustainable material composition. This revolutionary prototype demonstrates how high-performance engineering and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, setting a new standard for the future of mobility.

The concept represents a leap forward in material science, featuring bio-based polymer technology, advanced recycling processes, innovative compound formulations, and next-generation manufacturing techniques.

Giti Tire replaced petroleum-based ingredients with nature-derived alternatives such as sustainable natural rubber, pine resin, rice husk silica, and plant-based antioxidants.

Giti Tire Launches Next-Gen Plant with Innovative and Green Processes

Strategically situated to cater to key OEM demands, the latest manufacturing in Hefei, Anhui, China will boast an integrated supply chain capability, facilitating seamless production. This facility will underscore efficiency, connectivity, and innovative technology.

Furthermore, its proximity to China's Eastern seaboard ports promises exceptional logistical advantages, enhancing the company's overall operational efficiency.

With this new plant, production capacity is expected to increase while supporting more efficient and lower consumption manufacturing, increasing production in an environmentally conscious manner, responsibly serving markets throughout the world.

Rising Through the Ranks

Giti ranked 9th for Brand Value and 7th for Sustainability Perception in Brand Finance's 2024 Tire Brands Ranking.

In Brand Finance®’s recent release of its 2024 World’s Most Valuable and Strongest Tire Brands ranking, Giti was recorded to have a USD 924 million increase since 2023, an impressive 19% growth, that saw Giti’s Brand Value rank improve to 9th position out of the Top 10 Tire Brands in the world, and be hailed as the “fastest-growing tire brand in the world this year”.

Giti Tire Redefines Electric Performance and the Future of EV Mobility 

Giti began pitching its capabilities to join the Engineering Test Prototype project in April 2023, presenting its track record of competitive achievements, product development, and technical expertise.

The first prototype tire was completed in March 2024 and tested at the Yangcheng Test Site in July 2024, reaching 375 km/h.

Further development led to a speed of 391.93 km/h at the German ATP site between September and October 2024, setting a new top-speed record for the Chinese electric vehicle market.

Fast forward 8 August 2025, Giti Tire GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires have successfully powered the Engineering Test Prototype supercar in an engineering test drive to achieve a new land speed record of 472.41 km/h at the German ATP proving grounds.

On 14 September 2025, the team once again took to the ATP grounds, equipped with a fresh set of the GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires. Setting out to once again push the limits of their car, they hit the track with the intension of breaking records, and that they did!  
This time, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X) hypercar shattered the production-car top-speed world record, achieving a top speed of 496.22km/h, a 23.81hm/h increase from their test in August.  

This achievement represents a milestone in tire technology for electric vehicles and sets a new benchmark for the future of high-performance electric mobility.
