  • A Little About Work In Burke:

Work in Burke offers programming geared toward youth and young adults, primarily ages 17-24, who are in the process of planning or implementing career pathways. These programs are OPT-IN, J.E.T. and STRIVE.

    OPT-IN:

OPT-IN is an 8-week internship program for recent high school graduates and is delivered in the summer. Mentors meet their mentees at a required Kick-Off event and then reach out to them weekly to check-in and provide support. Some develop relationships that last far beyond the 8 weeks.

    J.E.T:

Jobs, Education, and Training (J.E.T.) is a program that operates throughout the year, assisting young adults on an individual basis to address specific needs such as identifying potential careers, learning about training programs, strengthening a resume, preparing for an interview, and searching for a job. Oftentimes these young adults need guidance and support in increasing life skills and navigating life as an adult.

    STRIVE:

Work in Burke also partners with local high schools and service organizations to encourage disengaged youth through the STRIVE program. This program meets monthly, engaging youth through food, conversation, and high-interest presentations. It takes place in local high schools and happens during the student lunch break. Volunteering in this role could include making one or more presentations to encourage students and engaging in conversation with students.
