  • 2026 Scholarship Application

    The LAB Broadcast Scholarship application will open on November 3, 2026. You may review the application form now to prepare your materials, but submissions will not be accepted until November 3. The application will close on Friday, January 23rd. 2026
  • Two students enrolled and attending class full-time in a broadcast curriculum at a Louisiana college or university will receive equivalent to $2,000 per semester, totaling $4,000 for the academic year. Eligible students can be in any broadcasting, mass communication, broadcast engineering or journalism major and/or work for a radio or TV station to apply.

    To Qualify:

    • Enrolled and attending classes, full-time, in a mass communication curriculum at a Louisiana college or university with the intent to pursue a career in broadcasting;
    • Be classified as a junior or senior in a four-year college
    • Enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester the scholarship is in effect;
    • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA

    Winner Criteria

    To confirm eligibility, winners will be required to provide:

    • Documentation verifying enrollment status
    • Copy of grades from the previous semester to ensure recipient meets grade point average requirements.
    • Produce PSA to promote the next year's scholarship

    Checks will be made payable to school for the following fall and spring semesters or, if graduating, towards student loan. (Not payable to individual).

    Winners must produce a 30 second radio and tv commercial spot to promote the next year’s 2026 scholarship.

    Application Procedure

    The LAB accepts all scholarship applications online. You will need to have your resume, essay, recommendation letters and department head statement ready before you fill out your online application as you will need to upload them during the process.

    This includes internships/jobs in the broadcasting industry (local/regional/national), involvement in college student media, membership or leadership roles in student journalism organizations (RTDNA, NABJ, SPJ, etc.), and attending student broadcasting workshops.
  • Essay

    Please answer all questions below in an essay response format. Your response should demonstrate strong written communication skills and be no more than 1,500 words (roughly 3 single spaced Word doc pages).
    • What inspired you to select broadcasting as your career choice?
    • What job opportunities will you seek after graduation?
    • Describe your dream job in broadcasting and eventual career goals.
    • How would you give advice to a younger broadcast student on handling stress and meeting deadlines in the broadcast industry?
    • Broadcasting plays an important role in the community. As a broadcaster, how do you plan to provide and give back to the communities you serve?
    • There are many critical departments behind the scene that keep the station on air. Describe the importance of sales/advertising, engineering, programming/traffic and production in broadcasting.
    • As a student journalist, are there any events/stories that played into your decision in make broadcasting your career choice?
