For residents of the Mon Valley, the Human Services Center Mon Valley (HSCMV) is the trusted partner that provides resources, programs, collaboration, and advocacy to improve lives.

HSCMV is a nonprofit dedicated to helping the people of the Mon Valley live a better life. Created in 1982 by Allegheny County Commissioners to address need in the large geographic region, Human Services Center Mon Valley remains true to its roots of providing an array of services – from its own programs to those of the organizations located on its campus to those of its many partner providers. As people powering people, today’s Human Services Center serves more than 1,000 people annually.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – Greeter

Volunteers are needed to greet taxpayers as they arrive at the HSCMV tax site. The site helps low to moderate income families make the most of their tax refunds by providing free federal, state, and local income tax preparation assistance. Last year, volunteers assisted with over 700 returns adding up to nearly $900,000 back to our community. These critical dollars put food on the table, paid heating bills, furthered education, and more. Prospective volunteers will undergo FREE training to ensure they meet the IRS guidelines. NO prior experience is needed! HSCMV will provide in-person tax preparation on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week, beginning January 27, 2026 through April 8, 2026.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – Tax Preparer

These critical dollars put food on the table, paid heating bills, furthered education, and more. Prospective volunteers will undergo FREE training to ensure they meet the IRS guidelines. NO prior experience is needed! All volunteers are taught federal and PA tax law and the preparation of simple tax returns. HSCMV will provide in-person tax preparation on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week, beginning January 27, 2026 through April 8, 2026.
Pantry Network of Eastern Suburbs

Volunteers assist stocking shelves, moving/loading food, registering clients, packing food boxes and/or carrying boxes to patrons' cars. Volunteer hours are flexible, but Pantry distribution days are the second Saturday of the month from 7:30AM to 10:30AM.
Youth LIFE After-School Program

Volunteers assist the Youth LIFE After-School Program staff any time between the hours of 3:30PM to 7:00PM, Monday-Thursday, September through May. Tasks may include helping students with homework and academic activities, in addition to becoming mentors to youth in 1st-5th grades.
Emerging Leaders Program - Professional Contact

Professionals are needed in various fields that would be willing to volunteer a few hours of their time with our seniors in high school! Every year, the students attend job shadows, job tours, career panels, presentations, and/or informational interviews with professionals in their fields of interest. We are always looking for engaging individuals that would like to share their expertise and knowledge in their careers.
