Conservation Readiness for Success Tool

  • Step 1. Introduction

  • The Conservation Readiness for Success Tool (CReST) is designed to help conservation teams strengthen their projects by highlighting its assets and potential areas for improvement to consider.

CReST isn’t prescriptive—it won’t tell you what to do. Rather, it offers insights that teams can use to reflect, discuss, and fine-tune their approach to increase the likelihood of achieving their goals.

  • Step 2. Ready for CReST?

  • CReST is applicable at the scale of a specific conservation project or program, whether it's an existing initiative or one that is under development.

The CReST instrument uses the term "project" throughout the survey. For the purposes of this survey, a project refers to any organized conservation effort with plans, actions and desired outcomes. It can enocmpass a one-time initiative, an ongoing program, a short time frame or extend over multiple years.

Whether it is a single, focused activity or a long-term, evolving program, the key factor is that the project involves a planned approach to achieve specific conservation outcomes.

The project does not need to be fully developed for CReST to be applied, but certain aspects should be in place for CReST to be effective.

Please answer the following to determine if the time is right to take the CReST for your project:

  • Based on a "no" response to at least one question above, CReST will not be as useful as it should be for your project. If you selected "no" by error or would like to continue anyway, please adjust your responses to "yes."

  • Step 8. Survey Questions

  • You are ready to take the CReST!

    • The survey consists of 30 survey items.

    • Each item will be answered on a scale of strongly agree to strongly disagree.

    • Results will be compiled into six categories and shared after completing the survey.

    • Results will also be emailed as a PDF to the address provided earlier, along with a discussion guide.
