  • Declaration of Non-Renewal for ACLS License to Practice

This section is NOT CURRENTLY IN EFFECT.

This information will be required beginning January 1, 2026.

  • Declaration of Non-Renewal (effective January 1, 2026):

If you decide not to renew your License to Practice, you must now complete a Declaration of Non-Renewal. This simple step keeps our records accurate and reduces unnecessary costs for ACLS and its members.

    Important:

    • If you let your License lapse at the end of the year and do not file a Declaration of Non-Renewal before your license expires, you will be subject to significant reinstatement fees, up to three years back fees, year 1 late payment penalty (50% of the license fee), and additional penalties as approved by ACLS voting members in 2025.
    • If you let your License lapse at the end of the year and do file the Declaration on time, you will still need to pay a reinstatement fee and up to three years of back fees if you return to practice. However, you will avoid the Year 1 late payment penalty (50% of the license fee) and you will pay a lower reinstatement fee for your license to practice.

  • Proof of Professional Liability Insurance

  • In accordance with Section 56 of the Canada Lands Surveyors Act (S.C. 1998, c. 14), all licensed Canada Lands Surveyors are required to maintain valid professional liability insurance as a condition of holding a License to Practice. This insurance ensures protection for both the public and the profession by providing coverage in the event of errors, omissions, or negligence in the delivery of professional surveying services.

To comply with these requirements, members must submit proof of current coverage—or proof of exemption, if applicable—when applying for or renewing their License to Practice. Maintaining up-to-date insurance documentation is essential to remain in good standing with the Association and to safeguard the integrity of Canada’s land administration systems.
