  • Terms

  • Partnership & Registration

Welcome to Principia Education. This Agreement represents a partnership between your family and our team, united by a shared commitment to your student’s growth. Before the first session, as instructed in our onboarding email, please complete your registration through Teachworks, including entering your contact and billing information. This ensures seamless communication, scheduling, and access to shared materials.

Personalization is a hallmark of the Principia experience, and our instructors strive to incorporate observations about student progress with parent and student feedback to maximize learning and growth. We encourage families to reach out anytime they have questions or concerns so that we can work together to address them. While we do not guarantee specific scores or admissions results, we are committed to helping students achieve meaningful, measurable progress and lasting confidence.

    Sessions & Scheduling

    Scheduling & Format

All sessions are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis and appear on your Teachworks calendar. Our private 1:1 tutoring is based on a consistent weekly schedule to provide the best opportunity for student growth. Each instructional “hour” includes 55 minutes of tutoring and 5 minutes reserved for the instructor’s session notes and follow-up.

    Access & Attendance

Both 1:1 session and group class materials are shared via Google Drive—please ensure your student can access Drive using a non-FCPS email before the first session. If a student is late for a 1:1 session, the instructor will send a courtesy email within 10 minutes of the scheduled start.

    Group Classes

Students are expected to maintain a respectful, engaged learning environment. Repeated disruptions or incomplete homework will prompt written notice; continued issues may lead to removal with a pro-rated refund. Missed classes are non-refundable, though notes and materials will be provided to help students catch up. Instructors offer in-class feedback, weekly session notes, and end-of-course progress reports.

    Cancellations & Rescheduling

Because Principia compensates instructors for reserved time, cancellations or reschedules require 48 hours’ written notice through Teachworks or email. Our cancellation policy is designed to retain the best instructors in the long term, providing consistency and quality for all students throughout their academic careers. Any change in session day, time, or student qualifies as a reschedule. Sessions canceled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice—or missed entirely—are billed in full. Three consecutive cancellations may result in removal from the standing schedule. Families may pause or discontinue sessions with at least 48 hours’ notice before the next scheduled session.

  • Communication & Meetings

Our goal is open, efficient communication. Instructors send session notes to parents after every attended session. Parents may reserve up to 10 minutes at the beginning or end of an in-person or remote 1:1 session (with 48 hours’ notice) to discuss quick updates or share feedback with the instructor. For extended discussions, separate meetings with instructors or leadership can be arranged and are billed in 15-minute increments at the standard hourly rate.

For group classes, one complimentary 15-minute parent check-in may be offered per term, subject to instructor availability. Please contact our leadership team to set up a group class check-in at info@principiaeducation.com.

    Billing & Packages

    Tuition & Payment

Private-tutoring clients are automatically billed at the end of each month via Stripe through Teachworks. Group-class tuition is due in full upon registration. If you would like to withdraw from a group class, the following refund policies apply:

    • Full refund minus $100 registration fee if canceled more than 3 weeks before class start
    • 50% refund minus $100 registration fee if canceled 2 weeks before class start
    • No refund within 1 week of class start

    Late Payments

If a card is declined, families have one week to update billing details before a $25 weekly late fee applies. All future sessions will pause until the balance is resolved if an invoice is overdue for more than two weeks.

    Refunds

Because each session represents our instructors’ time and preparation, we’re unable to refund services that have already been delivered.

Tutoring and Test Prep Packages & Transfers

Academic, AP, and Test Prep packages are non-refundable but never expire. Packages are based on service type (i.e., an Algebra 1 tutoring package would be separate from a TJ Prep package). Hours apply to one instructor level and a specific student at a time; remaining hours may be transferred to a sibling once a program of study concludes. Families will receive a notice when package hours fall to two or fewer.

    Policies & Professional Standards

    Conduct & Integrity

Principia maintains a zero-tolerance policy for disrespect toward instructors, staff, or fellow students. Instructors hold exclusive contracts with Principia; families may not engage them privately outside the company.

    Health & Safety

Principia follows a mask-optional policy. Either party may request masking during a session. Families agree not to attend in-person sessions if anyone in the household is ill or recently exposed to COVID-19 or other communicable diseases; remote sessions will be offered during recovery. In cases of inclement weather or force majeure, all sessions will transition online, and notice will be sent as early as possible.

    Office Reception

Given our small lobby area, parents should drop students off and return at pickup time. Nearby cafés and the public library offer comfortable waiting options.

    Termination

Principia may conclude services if we determine we cannot effectively meet a student’s needs or if the terms of this agreement are violated. Families may also end services with notice consistent with our cancellation policy.

    Privacy, Media & Agreement

Principia treats all student and family information with strict confidentiality. Instructors may ask for student log-in information to platforms such as SIS or the College Board in order to best support students, and all information is kept in strict confidence. On occasion, anonymized case studies and sample materials may be used to guide future students. Such examples are always stripped of identifying information. From time to time, student likeness (e.g., photographs at Principia), family testimonials, or anonymized student examples may also be used in Principia marketing materials. Such use will always be tasteful, limited, and respectful of the family’s privacy.
