  • A Zoning Permit is required for any new use of land or a building (A-301.1.5).

    Many businesses fit into more than one use category or sub-category within the Eating and Drinking or Assembly and Entertainment categories.

    This tool helps explain which permits are needed for places like nightclubs, event spaces, entertainment venues, bars/restaurants with entertainment, smoking lounges, and similar businesses.

    Answer the following questions to find out which use category (or categories) apply to your business.

  • Is Smoking/Vaping allowed in the establishment?*

  • Are there any other principal uses (e.g. dance floor, DJ, live entertainment, bottle service, hosting banquets/weddings, etc.)?*
  • Does the space accommodate private functions for groups that reserve it in advance (e.g. banquets, weddings, meetings)?*
  • Does the establishment also allow members of the general public to gather for entertainment or assembly activities?*
  • Will the space have a lawful occupancy of 50 or more people?*
  • Will there regularly be entertainment, including but not limited to: an area for dancing, live of recorded music, bottle service of liquor or spirits, or promoted events?*
