  •
  • 1.      Access Control – Indoors
If an indoor job with opportunities to chat with lots of people is your thing, this is the job for you!  You’ll need to be diligent in checking credentials for entry into any of indoor facilities and will rotate between the various rooms to keep things interesting.

    2.     Access Control – Course/Stadium (Marshalls & Fan Zone)
Are you able to be assertive while being kind and having fun?  Help us keep spectators and the general public off the course, coaches in their designated spots and access to the stadium under control.

    3.     Parking/Security - EARLY MORNING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Here’s your chance to wear one of those swanky neon vests, and if you’re lucky, wave around flashlight wands like you’re guiding a 747!  You’ll need to be firm with folks but also have some fun in the early mornings when teams and early volunteers are arriving.

    4.     Economic Impact Assessment
This is a key part of our weekend racing days, as data collected is used for reports to stakeholders and generating future sponsorship opportunities.  If you like chatting with people and are comfortable using a tablet, we could use you to wander the site, both indoors and out, to collect info on spending, visitor habits and general demographics. A great way to play a key role for the event!

    5.     Course Set-up/Maintenance
This job has lots of physical labour needed in the days before the race.  On race days, it’s an early morning start with some raking/upkeep of the course during the day and then an afternoon of takedown.  Please let us know in the “Anything else we should know?” box below on your availability for the Pre/During/Post Race times or if you’re around for the whole day.

    6.     Stadium Set-up/Maintenance
As with the Course Set-up, this is a physically demanding position which will start early, have some action during the race and need some post-race takedown.  Please let us know in the “Anything else we should know?” box below on your availability for the Pre/During/Post Race times or if you’re around for the whole day.

    7.     Fluor Testing
As with the 2024 World Cup, FIS will be testing all skis for the prohibited fluor based wax.  Volunteers will need to attend a training session on testing requirements and procedures. People will be needed to run skis between areas, assist with testing and monitor the skis once tested.

    8.     AREA FULL - Start/Finish/Clothing Porters
This job can include the transponder pickup/retrieval, shepherding athletes into position for the start and offering any assistance or refreshments at the finish.  Clothing porters will move athletes’ clothing from the start area to the finish line and organize bins at both ends.  Porters will need to be in good physical shape as they will be moving quickly, throughout the day,  especially on Sprint days!

    9.     Timing
This group will assist Zone 4 Timing to provide backup procedures to support the main timing system.  We’ll also need 2-3 people in the days prior to the race to help with the system setup which may include time inside and outside.

    10.  Green Team
In our goal to achieve a zero-waste event, we are working with the Bow Valley Biosphere Institute to reduce our carbon footprint.  We will have waste sorting stations, both indoors and outdoors and we need folks who are passionate about our environmental impact and are willing to get their hands dirty (literally!).

    11.  Team Compound
This gang will have a lot to do in the week prior to the races and some after the races.  This may include cleaning wax rooms and some minor construction. During the races, you will be on call for any requests from the team personnel and responsible for snow removal and general maintenance of the wax rooms.

    12.  Bannering
Here’s another job that will be pretty intense in the days prior to the races!  Working with our bannering plan, we need folks who can build temporary banner supports and use power tools to install the banners.  Banners will be in the stadium.  We’ll also need people to set-up, maintain and take down installation structures at the start, and at the finish line.  During the event, you will ensure that all Alberta World Cup tents, flags and other promotional installations are in good order and ready for the crowds.

    13.  Downtown Opening Ceremony
Many volunteers will also be needed for the Opening Ceremony downtown on Dec. 3.  Crowd control, set up and takedown, VIP and athlete management outside as well a number of folks for the reception inside Town Hall after the ceremony. We will likely be serving hot tea samples to outdoor attendees as well.

    14.  Medical Services
Trained medical personnel are needed around the race course and throughout the venue to attend to issues athletes or spectators may experience.  You may be outside for long periods, but you’ll be right on the front lines of the action.  Volunteers need to have Wilderness First Aid as minimum training, with nurses and doctors required as well.

    15.  Doping Control
It’s not the most glamourous job, but it is a necessary job at any high performance sporting event.  You will be given training on how to notify, chaperone and escort athletes to the Doping Control Centre and may be required to witness sample production.  We never know if Doping Control is happening until the day of the race, so you need to be prepared to take on a different job if you are not required for this position.  You will be working directly for a Doping Control Officer from any one of a number of national or international agencies and confidentiality is a must.

    16.  Competition Secretariat/Race Office
Here’s a mainly indoor position that will start a few days before the race and run from early morning to the afternoon each of the training and race days.  It’s a lot of preparation work before the race and quite a fast-paced office during the week.

    17.  Athlete Lounge
The Athlete Lounge will be located in the new biathlon building and is a place for athletes, coaches and team personnel to get a meal, unwind post-race and prepare for or recover from their race without interruption from the general public.  Volunteers are needed for food service, access control, room maintenance and generally being a good-natured and friendly host to visitors from around the world.  It is indoors and overlooks the race course and stadium.

    18.  Volunteer Centre/Event Hosts
The Volunteer Centre people will be responsible for the sign in/out of all volunteers as well as food service and room maintenance for both the volunteer and the media centres, which will share the Bill Warren Training Centre.  In addition, Event Hosts are needed to be outside greeting athletes and spectators as they arrive at the site.  You’ll need to be comfortable in a cowboy hat and be able to direct people to spectator areas as well as give general info about the Canmore Nordic Centre, the day’s races and Canmore shops and restaurants.

    19.  Anywhere/Anytime
If you want to roll the dice on your volunteer assignment, this is the box to check!  There’s always some urgent needs for volunteers as we get closer to the event and it’s nice to have a list of volunteers who are willing to take on anything.  We’ll try to get you assigned well in advance, but folks will be needed last minute for a wide variety of jobs!
