Join us for a conversation with Hannah L and Rabbi Harvey Winokur, authors of the new book Mussar in Recovery. This practical spiritual guide brings together two practices that have helped generations of people find meaning in their lives: the Twelve Steps of Recover and the Mussar Movement. They will share about their journeys in recovery and spirituality, the practices in this book, and how you can be involved in your own upcoming Recovery Mussar practice.
Hannah L is a student and facilitator of the Mussar tradition who draws on 10+ years of learning and living the Twelve Steps and Mussar, relying on the transformative power of these synergistic paths for spiritual guidance and personal growth. A scientist, inventor, innovator, and explorer, she blends curiosity and creativity with heartfelt faith. As a mother and grandmother, friend, mentor and sponsor, Hannah lives with purpose—guided by the twin blueprints of Mussar and Twelve Steps of recovery. Her journey is one of seeking and finding serenity, joy, and renewal—becoming her best self, one day at a time, in a world full of the unpredictable.
Rabbi Harvey J Winokur is a native of New York but has been in Atlanta since 1976. He held positions at The Temple and Temple Sinai before founding Temple Kehillat Chaim located in Roswell in 1982. He remained at Temple Kehillat Chaim until he retired and became Emeritus in 2018.
Since his retirement, Rabbi Winokur has become a trainer and facilitator for the Mussar Institute. Mussar is a one thousand year old Jewish program of self-improvement through the balancing of personal character traits. He currently serves on several of its committees and facilitates the curriculum for several communities online.
