  •  The Save Lucy Committee is so excited to be hosting our 1st Annual Trunktoberfest on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 from 11AM - 4PM at Lucy the Elephant!!  As part of the festivities, we are calling out to amateur bakers of all ages from Margate and the surrounding areas to join in the fun and participate in our first-ever Fall Baking Competition. If you think you've got what it takes (and even if you don't!), we want YOU!  Come share a piece of home-baked goodness with Lucy's friends and family by proudly serving up your favorite recipe to be judged by our secret panel of highly-qualified taste-testers to see who is the BEST. No matter how you slice it, it's sure to be an elephantastic time!

    To enter the competition, all participants must either register in advance online by completing the entry form that follows this page (preferred) or in-person on the day of the competition when submitting their baked good. All entries for this competition, whether you registered in advance or not, must be dropped off between the hours of 10:00AM and 12:00PM (noon) on October 18, 2025 at Lucy's Gift Shop, currently located across the street from the Elephant at 9219 Atlantic Avenue, Unit 5 on the corner of Atlantic and Washington Avenues. Our esteemed panel of judges will announce the winners at 2:00PM during the Trunktoberfest event.  Winners do not need to be present to win.  Best of luck, and we can't wait to taste your winning recipe!!!

  • Competition Rules & Regulations

    Please read these rules and regulations carefully. Entries that do not comply with these guidelines may result in being disqualified from the competition.

  • Registration

    Registration is currently open and will be accepting entries until the day of the event.  All participants must register either online (the preferred method) or in person no later than Saturday, October 18th, 2025 at 12:00PM (noon).  In-person registration can be done at Lucy's Gift Shop, temporarily located at 9219 Atlantic Avenue, Unit 5 in Margate, NJ 

    Categories

    There are two categories of competition. Participants may choose to enter one or both.

    • Category 1:  Apple Baked Good
    • Category 2:  Pumpkin Baked Good                                                     

    Awards

    There will be two winners for the baking competition.

    • One Grand Prize Winner for Best Apple Baked Good  ($100 Gift Card to Lucy's Gift Shop)
    • One Grand Prize Winner for Best Pumpkin Baked Good  ($100 Gift Card to Lucy's Gift Shop)

    Rules

    1. All participants must be amateur bakers. Participants cannot be formally trained bakers, earn their primary income from baking, or sell their baked goods professionally or commercially.
    2. Participants may enter a maximum of one item per category of competition only.
    3. All entries must be homemade. No store-bought or boxed mixes are permitted unless they are transformed into a final baked good that is different than its original intended form.  (i.e.  Boxed pudding is not permitted to be entered as a pudding or a pie filling, but it is permitted if used as an ingredient when making a cake batter as its no longer being used in the manner it was intended.)
    4. All entries must be prepared/made by the participant in whose name they are registered under.
    5. The MAIN ingredient as defined by the category of competition, must be natural, using only real apples and/or pumpkin. No artifical flavorings or extracts to replicate or imitate the flavor of the MAIN ingredients of apple and/or pumpkin may be used.
    6. All entries must include a detailed recipe with the following pieces of information: The Title of the Baked Good, a list of ALL of the ingredients used, and a complete set of detailed instructions on how to make it. (Please note that while it is not required, we kindly ask that you state whether your entry contains any commonly known allergens such as eggs, dairy, wheat, nuts, etc.) Please do not include your name on the recipe as the judges will reference the recipe during their evaluation of the entries.
    7. All entries must be fresh and dropped off between 10:00AM and 12:00PM (noon) on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 at Lucy’s Gift Shop currently located at 9219 Atlantic Avenue, Unit 5 (the intersection of Atlantic & Washington Avenues). Any entries received after the 12:00PM deadline will be disqualified. When dropping off your baked good, please indicate whether the item has any specific storage requirements such as refrigeration to maintain proper food safety recommendations.
    8. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
      • APPEARANCE / PRESENTATION
        • Is the color, shape, overall look representative of the type of baked good being submitted?
        • Does it look appetizing?
      • FLAVOR / TASTE
        • Does the item taste good?
        • Can you taste the MAIN ingredient?
        • Is the overall flavor profile balanced?
      • TEXTURE
        • Does the baked good have a proper mouthfeel (i.e. not too dry, not too chewy, etc)?
    9. The final decision of the winners will be determine by the judges and announced at 2:00PM on Saturday,October 18th, 2025. Winners need not be present at the time of the announcement and will be notified by a member of the Lucy Staff.
