The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies (CELAS) at Rice is pleased to co-sponsor talks and events related to Latin American and US Latino/a Studies and/or the Latine community at Rice, Houston, and beyond. Any Rice faculty, staff member, or graduate or undergraduate student may apply for event co-sponsoring from $100 to $500.
Funds may also be requested for virtual invited speakers for classes related to Latin American and US Latino/a Studies (up to $250 honorarium for a virtual visit).
We are particularly interested in co-sponsoring events that relate to the Center's transnational, multilingual, and multiracial research agenda or that are related to our current research clusters (see below).
Events that collaborate with scholars, activists, and community members across Americas (incl. Houston, Texas, and the Gulf Coast region and US South) are highly encouraged.
Deadlines
We have three funding request deadlines throughout the year. Calls open two months before each deadline:
· August 31 (for fall and spring semester)
· January 10 (for the spring or summer semester)
· April 10 (for the summer and fall)
*Please keep in mind the following:
- CELAS cannot transfer funds; a project number will be provided to charge the event expenses (please make sure to comply with Rice policies).
- CELAS will not be involved in the organization or logistics of the event.
- CELAS must be acknowledged in any promotional materials (flyers, posters, emails, etc.); flyers must be sent for approval two weeks prior the event date.
- Expenses must be cleared within four weeks of the event.
