  • George Orwell’s classic novel comes to the stage in this faithful adaptation, set in an authoritarian world dominated by constant surveillance and censorship. This production offers challenging, emotionally intense roles in a thought-provoking story that feels more relevant than ever.

    Open auditions for ages 14-25

    Audition instructions:

    Prepare a 60-90 second monologue
    of your choice.

    Please memorize your audition material.

    You may also be asked to do cold readings from the script.

  • Character Breakdown

    WINSTON: Male presenting actor
    Working for the "Ministry of Truth" to rewrite history for the Party, Winston, driven by his intellectual curiosity and defiant spirit against the Party's totalitarian rule, secretly begins to have dreams of rebellion.

    JULIA: Female presenting actor
    Julia is opportunistic, practical, and uninterested in politics. She delights in breaking the rules, and her cunning and courageousness inspires Winston to take greater and greater risks.

    SYME: Male or Female presenting actor
    Works with Winston for the Party.  Timid, scholarly, hesitant and self-effacing.

    O'BRIEN: Male or Female presenting actor
    A high-ranking, corrupt Inner Party official, intimidating and ruthless, but can be charming at times. 

    MARTIN: Male or Female presenting actor
    O'brien's assistant.  Professional and formal attitude.

    PARSONS: Male or Female presenting actor
    Winston’s jovial, oblivious neighbor, blindly loyal to the Party.

    LOUDSPEAKER: Male or Female presenting actor:
    The voice of the Party heard through the screens in all buildings in Oceania.

    GLADYS: Female Presenting actor
    A young teenage girl, she is a part of the “Children’s SPIES” organization.

    LANDLADY: Female Presenting actor
    An aging member of the resistance.  She is a bit abrasive but with a good sense of humor and a positive spirit.

    BIG BROTHER: M OR F presenting actor
    The ever-watchful figurehead of the Party whose image enforces absolute loyalty and control—though his actual existence is uncertain.

    GOLDSTEIN: M OR F presenting actor
    The supposed leader of the resistance, portrayed by the Party as a scapegoat and symbol of treason.

    MESSENGER: M OR F presenting actor
    Obedient messenger for the Party in the office building where Winston works.

    COFFEE VENDOR: M OR F presenting actor:
    Punctual, obedient servant for the Party

    WAITER/WAITRESS: M OR F presenting actor
    A Party member serving in public spaces.

    Guards (2 roles): M OR F presenting actors:
    O'Brien's Guards. Stern, militant, obedient.
