In this class, we’ll trace how the Festival of Lights has transformed over time: from a commemoration of military victory, to a celebration of trumph of the spirit, to an expression of renewed self-determination, to an recognition that we live in diverse worlds.

Rabbi Naamah Kelman is the first woman ordained as rabbi by the Hebrew Union College in Israel in 1992. She served there for over 3 decades, retiring as Dean. She remains committed to pluralism and egalitarianism in Israel, promoting liberal Judaism, co-existence, and a democratic-Jewish Israel.
