• 2026 Emily B. Wright Academic Need Scholarship Application

  • The Portsmouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated affirms its commitment to the community by awarding TWO $2,500 academic need scholarship to a student demonstrating academic excellence and financial need.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    The applicant must be:

    1. A graduating senior from one of the high schools of the designated service areas of Portsmouth, Virginia.
    2. A graduating senior with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
    3. Demonstrate and document financial need.
    4. Accepted by and enrolled in a Historically Black College or University as a full-time student; an official document verifying enrollment for the fall semester of 2026 must be provided before the actual scholarship award is disbursed.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURES

    The applicant will:

    1. Submit the original copy of a completed application form.
    2. Submit an essay (250-500 words) explaining how this scholarship will support you financially.
    3. Submit a current year’s income tax statement to verify financial need.
      (FAFSA, W-2’s, unemployment, a statement from Social Services or other public benefit statement may also be used).
    4. Submit one (1) letter of recommendation which addresses the applicant’s leadership, citizenship and character qualifications; the letter may come from a high school principal, a high school counselor, a club sponsor, or a person other than a relative.
    5. Submit an official high school transcript and a copy of SAT or ACT Score Reports, if taken.
    6. Submit the application form and all requested items electronically to www.pacdst.org.
    7. Submit an official senior yearbook picture.

    Applications are due by Saturday, February 7, 2026.

    The recipient will be recognized at our annual May Week Brunch on May 30, 2026.
