  • Shelter Building Workshop

In the wilderness, it's not bears or cliffs that kill - it's exposure. Dehydration, hypothermia, and hyperthermia claim more lives than any predator ever will. Shelter is your lifeline against all.
  • Shelter Building Workshop - Extended Description

Join us in Canton, NC (near I-40, Exit 31) for an intensive hands-on shelter building experience that could save your life. We strongly recommend bringing work gloves - splinters might seem minor, but in a real survival situation, infection from untreated wounds can become life-threatening.

This workshop emphasizes practical construction over lengthy lectures. You'll examine pre-built shelter examples and construct your own using natural materials. If you've ever been disoriented in the wilderness, even briefly, you know that unsettling feeling when familiar landmarks disappear. In those moments, your mind instinctively prioritizes three essentials: fire, water, and shelter.

Quality shelter reduces sun exposure and perspiration, slowing dehydration. In cold conditions, proper insulation conserves enormous amounts of body energy - sometimes eliminating the need for fire entirely. Effective shelter reduces your dependence on other survival resources, making it a top survival priority.

Beyond survival applications, building with natural materials offers genuine connection. You'll engage your hands, collaborate with others, and ground yourself in nature's rhythms. This workshop combines practical life-saving skills with the therapeutic satisfaction of creating something substantial from the forest around you.

Come learn to keep yourself warm, dry, and alive while reconnecting with the fundamental human skill of building shelter.
