Coaching Code of Conduct
The focus of the WHSPA is to educate our student athletes through the sport of Powerlifting. The WHSPA believes a program should be designed to enhance both academic and physical achievement. Each athlete is to be treated with respect and his or her welfare shall be considered by coaches at all times. The following guidelines have been adopted by the WHSPA Board of Directors and shall be followed by all coaches.
- All coaches are to be aware they have a tremendous influence on the education of the athletes and should never put winning ahead of the development of character.
- All coaches are to set an example of the highest levels of ethics and conduct.
- All coaches shall promote and direct his or her program in harmony with their school and the WHSPA level of standards.
- All coaches shall master the meet rules and will teach them to his or her athletes.
- All coaches are to show respect and support towards all those involved in a meet.
- Coaches will not act in any way to encourage disrespectful behavior from athletes or fans towards any referee. Public criticism towards athletes, fans, coaches or referees will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the venue.
- All coaches shall avoid use and promotion of drug, alcohol and tobacco use when in contact with athletes.
- All coaches shall avoid using inappropriate language when in contact with athletes.
By signing below, I understand and agree to the following:
1. To follow the WHSPA Coaches Code of Conduct and understand that failure to do so may cause revocation of my membership and removal from WHSPA meets.
2. I have completed the NFHS course and submitted my certificate of completion below.
3. Membership is required for anyone to coach at the state meet, and it must be purchased BEFORE the completion of lifter registration for the state meet.
4. I understand that I must be prepared to show my membership upon request (digital or paper). If I fail to show my membership card, I understand that I will be removed from the competition floor.
