    CE-256 (*)(+) Effective Engineering & Design Analysis: Factors & Tools (Pt 1)

     


    Engineering is largely about critically evaluating and analyzing design options and making decisions based on many factors. Relevant factors which affect engineering and design decisions include the following: robustness of requirements, specifications, technical interfaces, procurement constraints, materials availability, resource availability, schedule pressures, economic limitations, work flow, process flow, system inter-operability, and the timing/structure of testing, commissioning and system acceptance. This seminar introduces engineers to the important factors which influence engineering decision-making. It exposes engineers to these factors using engineering examples and provides a methodical approach to understanding how these factors impact engineering decisions.

    CE-257 (*)(+) Effective Engineering & Design Analysis: Factors & Tools (Pt 2)

     


    CE 257 identifies analysis tools that engineers can employ to make sound design decisions in order to optimize the factors identified in CE 256. Engineering case studies and problems guide participants through the process of using engineering analysis tools, along with solutions based on the instructor's 30 years of experience in the arena of engineering, design and construction. The effective use of tools (along with the use of sound engineering principles) facilitates best practice in engineering design and the application of engineering theory. This seminar is intended to provide clear guidelines on the use of analysis tools to make good engineering decisions, along with a rational understanding on the trade-offs inherent in the practice of engineering.

    CE-238 (*)(+) The Highs & Lows of the Scaffolding Safety Regulations (Pt.1)

     


    OSHA’s scaffold safety standard requires employees who perform work while on a scaffold be trained to recognize hazards associated with the type of scaffolding used and to understand procedures to control or minimize hazards. This course is designed as a model training program to satisfy the standard’s training requirements. Topics include hazards from falls, being struck by falling objects, electrical hazards, access, proper use of scaffolds, proper handling of materials on scaffolds, and maximum intended loads of scaffolds. This class will focus on the basic safety requirements of scaffold usage and supported scaffold requirements.

This course is designed as a model training program to satisfy the standard’s training requirements. Topics include hazards from falls, being struck by falling objects, electrical hazards, access, proper use of scaffolds, proper handling of materials on scaffolds, and maximum intended loads of scaffolds. This class will focus on the unique requirements of hung scaffolding and other specialty scaffolding.
    High energy costs and concern over the environment have generated elevated energy awareness throughout our society. New buildings are constructed to meet strict energy Code standards but there are still many existing facilities that could benefit by implementing energy conservation measures (ECM’s). ASHRAE Level I, II and III energy audits are a means of identifying these conservation opportunities and related implementation costs as an initial decision-making tool for a facility. Energy conservation is a broad field covering many technologies. Current practices and technological advances in lighting, lighting controls, motors/VFD and building envelope will be reviewed at length in this session.

    With a portfolio of $3 Billion in completed projects, Ravi has over 30 years of proven construction project leadership experience, spanning complex and high-visibility core and shell, high-technology, electrical systems, commercial buildings and design-build infrastructure projects (including P3) for electrical contractors, real estate developers, multinational corporations, technology providers, private investors and large public institutions. He has expertise in construction engineering, finance, estimating, supply chain, logistics, contracts management and procurement.
    Ravi is a successful operations and program manager, with experience in cost control, contracts negotiation and risk management. He has leveraged his ability to forge partnerships with investors, clients, government agencies, suppliers, regulators, contractors, and employees to drive project success. Ravi strives to implement best practices and innovation to deliver value for project organizations. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE), certified Design-Build (DBIA) and Project Management Professional (PMP), with a M.S. in Telecommunications & Information Management from New York University and a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University. Ravi earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic University. He completed Stanford University's (Graduate School of Business) Professional Certificate program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Harvard University's Advanced Real Estate Finance program.

    Linda McKenna, BECE, CSP, OSHA OTI, P.E.

     

    Linda McKenna, President of LCM Consulting, Inc. (WBE) and McKenna Safety Services, LLC (WBE/SBE), is a licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional, NYS Certified Safety and Loss Prevention Consultant and a former NYC licensed Site Safety Manager. She has an extensive background in the construction industry and has provided safety support for many agencies in the Tri-State Area including Metropolitan Transit + Agency (MTA). NYC School Construction Authority (SCA), NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), NJ School Construction Corporation (NJSCC) and New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
    Ms. McKenna has 30 year experience in the Construction Industry with 25 specializing in Construction Safety. She is also an OSHA Training Institute certified instructor, NYS Certified Safety and Loss Prevention Consultant and a former Adjunct Professor with the Construction Management Program at Stevens Institute of Technology. Linda has presented at Regional Conferences for the Professional Engineers™ Society and given seminars for clients, approved for awarding PDH’s™, on pertinent construction safety topics.
