Decorate a gingerbread house according to your own theme, style, or whim! Take home your finished house that evening, then deliver it on December 11 to Central Congregational Church for entry in the Festival contest and exhibition.
Proceeds from this class are donated at 100% to the Port Gingerbread Festival, which is raising money to benefit Nourishing the North Shore, a non-profit with a mission of ensuring equal access to healthy, local food to all members of the North Shore Communities in a manner that builds community, fosters connection, and promotes dignity and self-reliance.
The session will take place in the first-floor handicap accessible Sargent Gallery Gallery at 65 Water St, Newburyport, MA 01950.
WHY participate?

Expand your skill set by working with royal icing and other edible materials.
Enhance the Festival – and show off your result – by entering your gingerbread house in the contest/exhibition.

(You are welcome to provide business cards alongside your gingerbread house.)

Materials to bring:
- Candies and/or other food items for decorating, according to your desired theme or color scheme, or whatever tickles your fancy. Everything must be edible.
- Optional: A string or two of battery-operated lights.
(A list of recommendations & sources for these items will be provided upon registration.)
Materials provided to each registrant:
- A delicious gingerbread house (8”L x 4”W x 12”H) expertly baked and
assembled by My Gingerbread Baker
- A sturdy wooden platform (15” x 15”) which can be reused in future years
- An ample supply of royal icing in piping bags fitted with decorating tips
- Guidance and hands-on help as you wish during the session.
Students must by 16 years or older.

Teachers
This workshop will be facilitated by Myra Suraci and Mary Dissette.
Myra is proprietor and chief baker at My Gingerbread Baker, whose mission is to encourage creativity, celebration and holiday gatherings by providing hand-crafted, made-from-scratch gingerbread houses to get the party started.
Mary is a veteran gingerbread house builder whose enthusiasm led her in 2023 to assemble a team of kindred spirits to start the Port Gingerbread Festival, now entering its third season in downtown Newburyport.
